DURHAM, N.C. - USA Baseball announced the final 2017 15U National Team roster on Friday, following the completion of 15U National Team Trials at the National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. The 20-man roster will compete at the 2017 COPABE Pan Am "AA" Championships in Cartagena, Colombia, beginning Thursday, August 10.

For the first time ever, the 15U National Team Trials featured two phases and included 72 athletes. Phase I began on July 30 and featured six exhibition games before 34 players advanced to Phase II on August 2, where they competed in two additional games before the final roster was announced.

"Selecting the top twenty players from an already exceptional group of talented individuals was extremely tough, but we are very excited about the players we have chosen to represent the United States in Colombia," 15U National Team Manager Rob Shabansky said. "Moving to this new format, we've seen huge growth of the talent pool, which made selection more difficult, but ultimately made for a better final team.

"Our staff has worked tirelessly to identify the players with the right skills and determination to be successful and we have complete faith that this group will represent themselves, their families and their country in the right way when competing on the international stage," continued Shabansky.

Nelson Berkwich (Boca Raton, Fla.) is one of seven alumni that will once again compete for Team USA. Berkwich went 7.0 innings and had a 0.00 ERA in his two appearances with the 2016 15U National Team last year, striking out three en route to a bronze medal at the World Baseball Softball Confederation U-15 Baseball World Cup. The other six alums participated in the 12U National Team program.

Davis Diaz (Pittsburg, Calif.) and Joshua Hartle (King, N.C.) were both members of the 2017 14U National Team Development Program (NTDP) and earned an invitation to 15U National Team Trials. Hartle is one of 13 players on the roster who will be making their international debut for the red, white and blue in 2017.

In total, 13 members of the 2017 15U National Team have trained within the USA Baseball national team development program.

Athletes selected for the 15U National Team are chosen from the 15U National Team Championships, the USA Baseball 14U National Team Identification Series (NTIS), the 14U NTDP and recommendations from professional scouts and college and high school coaches.

The 2017 15U National Team will remain in Cary, North Carolina to train from August 6-8 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The team will play three exhibitions, beginning against TPA on Aug. 6 at 5:30 p.m. (ET) and then Best in Class on Aug. 7-8 at 10 a.m. (ET) and 10:30 a.m. (ET), respectively.

Following exhibitions, Team USA will travel to Cartagena, Colombia, for the COPABE Pan Am "AA" Championships where they will compete for a world championship.
