DURHAM, N.C. - In the final exhibition game and final event of training before heading off to the 2017 COPABE Pan Am "AA" Championships in Cartagena, Colombia, the 15U National Team fell 6-5 to BIC Showcase on Tuesday afternoon at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

Despite fine outings by six pitchers and only two earned runs allowed, Team USA committed four errors to extend key innings for BIC Showcase, allowing the other four runs to score unearned.

The United States battled until the very end, however, making a run that began in the fifth inning when they found their footing at the plate to rattle off all five runs to close out the game.

Pete Crow-Armstrong hit the first single of the game for the U.S., shooting one into center field before stealing back-to-back bases to reach third. Masyn Winn then got one of his game-high two RBIs, knocking a sacrifice fly to center field to get the U.S. on the board.

Jackson Miller led the team with a 2-for-2 outing, getting his first hit in the sixth to right center before Roc Riggio reached first on a knock to the outfield. Crow-Armstrong reached on a fielding error that also allowed Riggio and Miller to cross the plate and cut the deficit even further.

Miller then got his second hit in the seventh, knocking in Winn off a well-struck ball through the left side. Mac Guscette then led off the eighth with a single down the left field line to set up Crow-Armstrong reaching first. Tanner Witt then shot one to center field to set up a Winn sac fly, scoring Guscette and bringing the deficit to 6-5.

The final push in the bottom of the ninth with the tie-breaking rules in effect led to a bases-loaded, two-outs situation down one. BIC Showcase recorded its 10th strikeout of the game to end it.

From the mound, Grant Taylor got the start and went 3.1 innings, allowing just two hits and two runs while fanning four batters. Michael Flores and Joshua Hartle combined for the next 2.1 innings, not allowing an earned run before Jackson Miller went 1.1 innings and gave up just a hit.

Michael Brooks and Masyn Brooks closed the final 2.0 innings with neither of them allowing a hit, getting one and two strikeouts, respectively.

The 15U National Team will now travel to Cartagena, Colombia, where they participate in the 2017 COPABE Pan Am "AA" Championships.
