USAB to expand on-field programming

Collins, Seiler recognized in Dallas
The International Baseball Federation (IBAF) has tabbed Zack Collins as its Junior Athlete of the Year following his star performance for the gold medal-winning USA Baseball 16U National Team in Mexico. The announcement came as part of the federation's weekend-long congress heading into the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings.

Horton named to 2012 CNT staff

USA tops Canada, 12-2; wins gold
After weeks of trials, training, and competition, the 18U National Team is the 2011 champions of the COPABE 18U/AAA Pan American Championships. Team USA (9-0) defeated Canada (6-2) in eight innings, 12-2, to take home gold.

The 18U National Team started the second round of the 18U Pan American Championships with a win over Panama, 9-0, on Friday morning. With a record of 7-0, the win makes the U.S. the only undefeated team remaining in the tournament.

After rallying in the fourth inning, the 18U National Team (6-0) defeated Puerto Rico (3-3), 8-2, to remain undefeated. With its perfect record, the U.S. moves into the second round of the tournament as the #1 seed from Group B.

Team USA (5-0) kept its foot on the gas, Wednesday, as the team defeated the Bahamas (0-5), 16-0, in a mercy-rule shortened five-inning game to record the squad's second consecutive shutout and third of the tournament.

16 teams announced for 2012 NHSI
USA Baseball has announced the 16 high schools that will compete in the inaugural National High School Invitational (NHSI) at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., March, 28-31, 2012. The tournament will be represented by nine states and will feature some of the top prep baseball programs and players in the country. Baseball America and The Town of Cary are partnering with USA Baseball in the hosting and presenting of the event.

MLB concludes annual umpire camp
Major League Baseball concluded its sixth annual Umpire Camp last week at the MLB Urban Youth Academy in Compton, California. The camp, which was held from November 6th-13th, featured instruction from six 2011 Postseason Umpires, including Mark Carlson, Kerwin Danley, Gerry Davis, Jeff Nelson and World Series Umpires Ted Barrett and Gary Cederstrom.

For the second night in a row Mother Nature interfered with a game the 18U National Team was scheduled to participate in. Rain came down hard leading up to USA's scheduled game vs. the host country, Colombia and as a result the game was postponed until Tuesday, November 21 at 9:30AM.

USA Baseball wrapped up its summer-long Twitter giveaway, "9 Innings of Summer," on Tuesday, Oct. 25. The campaign increased USA Baseball's (@USABaseball) Twitter followers by 2,622 (124%), as it opened the campaign on June 22, 2011, with 2,114 and concluded with 4,736.
