USA Baseball Announces 13U/14U Athlete Development Program Roster

The 2021 ADP is set to take place from August 2-5 at the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

CARY, N.C. – USA Baseball today announced the 2021 13U/14U Athlete Development Program (ADP) roster. The ADP features four days of highly-developed instruction and education, both on and off the field, and will be held August 2-5 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.

The 2021 roster comprises 39 athletes who have previously participated in USA Baseball identification events such as the 12U National Team Identification Series (NTIS), 11U Futures Invitational, and the National Team Championships.

In total, 38 of the 40 invited athletes played in the 2021 14U National Team Championships, with 26 players selected from the event in Arizona and 12 invited after competing at the National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. The roster also features eight athletes who have competed in the Futures Invitational in the past and eight players who have previously participated in the NTIS.

Additionally, nine players on the 2021 13U/14U ADP roster were members of the 2019 12U National Team that won six games at the 2019 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-12 Baseball World Cup in Tainan, Taiwan.

“We are excited to have such a talented group at the 2021 Athlete Development Program,” said Ben Kelley, USA Baseball Director of Baseball Operations. “These young players have stood out to our staff as incredible athletes with strong characters this summer, and we are looking forward to helping them continue to grow and develop both on and off the field at this year’s event.”

The Athlete Development Program will feature advanced on-field skills development with positional and team fundamental drills, as well as ongoing evaluation by USA Baseball national team coaches. In addition, players will be placed on a Stars or Stripes team before competing in a best-of-three-game series during the event, with participants being evaluated for the opportunity to be invited to the 15U National Team Trials.

The off-field component includes education regarding the NCAA recruiting process, umpire interaction, nutrition and wellness guidance, strength and conditioning education, media training, and character and leadership development.

Athletes will learn from an experienced coaching staff, including current University of Michigan head coach, Erik Bakich, as well as former MLB All-Star and current University of Texas assistant coach, Troy Tulowitzki. The coaching staff will provide participating athletes with an individual player assessment report at the conclusion of the event.

Centre College Head Coach Drew Briese will serve as the field coordinator for the event. Briese previously held roles as the pitching coach for the 2019 National Team Development Program (NTDP) and as an assistant coach or the 2016 15U National Team. Casey Scott (Bishop Veret Catholic High School), who will be the event’s pitching coordinator, previously served as pitching coach at the 2019 14U NTDP.

Bakich will lead the Stars, and will be joined by assistant coaches David Houseton (Covenant Day School), Brett Kay (JSerra Catholic High School), and pitching coach John Weber (Cypress High School).

Tulowitzki will serve as the manager for the Stripes. His staff features assistants Eric Borba (Orange Lutheran High School), Josh Ellison (Chaparral High School), and pitching coach Larry Vucan (Southlake Carroll High School).
