CARY, N.C. -Highlighted by a 430-foot home run over the centerfield wall by Elijah Green to leadoff the game, Team Red secured a 2-1 victory over Team Navy to close out the first day of game action at the 2021 PDP League on Sunday evening at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.

Tucker Toman (1-for-3), Kaden Martin (1-for-3), and Tommy Specht (1-for-3) all added hits for Team Red in the win. In addition to his home run, Green also drew two walks and stole a base in the contest while Jack Lausch (0-for-1) scored the team’s insurance run, drew a walk, and stole a base of his own on Sunday..

For Team Navy, Termarr Johnson (1-for-3), Jayden Hylton (1-for-1), and Alex Stanwich (1-for-3) collected hits in the loss, and Druw Jones finished 1-for-2 with the team’s lone run scored after he hit his own solo leadoff home run in the sixth inning.

Brad Hodges (1-0) earned the win on Sunday for Team Red after allowing just one hit and no walks in two scoreless innings, while collecting three punchouts. Team Navy’s Ian Ritchie Jr. (0-1) was tagged with the loss after giving up one run on three hits.

• Team Red got an early 1-0 lead courtesy of a 430-foot leadoff home run to center off the bat of Green in the top of the first.
• In the top of the third, Lausch scored an insurance run for Team Red to give the squad a 2-0 lead. He drew a leadoff walk and came around to third with a stolen base and a wild pitch before advancing home on a throw to second that caught Green attempting to collect a stolen base of his own.
• Team Navy finally broke onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff home run of its own from Jones who launched one over the left field wall to make it a 2-1 game in Team Red’s favor.
• With Team Navy down to its final two outs, Hylton knocked a one-out single into right-center to try and start a rally but Tucker Biven was able to pick him off and get one of his two strikeouts to close out Team Red’s 2-1 victory.
