CARY, N.C. - Team Gray used early offense and took advantage of a few errors to earn a 9-1 win over Team Red in the 2021 PDP League on Tuesday evening at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. The team scored four in the first and three in the second to take a commanding 7-0 lead before adding some insurance runs in the fifth and sixth to advance to 2-0-1 on the week. Team Red’s lone run of the game came in the fifth and the team dropped to 1-2 with the loss.

Ethan Petry (2-for-3) led the way for Team Gray’s offense, driving in three runs while also scoring one. Yoel Tejeda (1-for-3) had the only extra base hit for Team Red and scored the team’s one run.

Brady Disbro started on the mound for Team Gray and struck out three batters across two scoreless innings while Cole Phillips (1-0) earned the win. Phillips did not allow a hit in his two innings of work in the third and fourth. Chase Shores (0-1) started on the mound for Team Red and suffered the loss.

Key Moments

• After Mason Swinney and Jayson Jones drew back-to-back walks, Ethan Petry sent a two-run double down the left field line to put Team Gray up 2-0 in the top of the first.
• A batter later, Gavin Turley singled down the left field line to score Petry and make it a 3-0 game.
• After stealing second, Turley came across on a Korbyn Dickerson triple to make it 4-0 after the top half of the first.
• Chris Stanfield hit a leadoff double for Team Gray in the second inning before moving to third on a fielder’s choice. Stanfield then came in to score on an error and Oritz would later come across on a wild pitch, making it 6-0.
• Swinney, who reached on the error that scored Stanfield would make it a 7-0 game in the second after Jones hit an RBI groundout.
• Team Gray added an eighth run in the top of the fifth when Jackson Holliday drew a pinch-hit walk and scored on a Petry single.
• Team Red scored its first run of the game a half inning later in the bottom of the fifth when Yoel Tejeda hit a leadoff double and then scored on an error to make it 8-1.
• In the top half of the sixth, Dickerson singled through the right side and would eventually come across on a wild pitch to score the final run of the game and secure Team Gray’s 9-1 victory.

• Team Gray’s pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts, led by Louis Rodriguez’s four in the fifth and sixth innings.
