CARY, N.C. - Team Light Blue rallied from a five-run deficit to collect a 7-6 victory over Team Red with a clutch Cole Young walkoff single on Monday, July 26, at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. The team put up at least one run in each of the last four innings, including four in the bottom of the sixth, to complete its comeback and collect its first win of the 2021 PDP League.

Team Light Blue’s offensive production was a team effort on Monday as the squad recorded 10 hits off the bats of 10 different players. Jacob Reimer, Dominic Hellman, and Lukas Schramm all went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in the contest, while Gabe Miranda (1-for-3) and Cole Young (1-for-2) also tallied RBIs for Team Light Blue.

Gavin Kilen finished the day 1-for-1 with an RBI and a run scored for Team Red, while Elijah Green (1-for-3), Yoel Tejeda (1-for-3), and Teddy Cashman (1-for-2) all recorded hits in the loss. Ike Irish (0-for-1) also tallied an RBI and a run scored.

Xavier Cardenas III (1-0) earned the win for Team Light Blue after throwing a hitless, scoreless top of the seventh. Tejeda suffered the loss after surrendering two hits and the game-winning run in 0.2 innings of work.

Key Moments

  • In the bottom of the second, Guzman doubled, Silva walked, and Neville recorded a bunt single to load the bases with no outs for Team Light Blue. But Team Red’s Noah Schultz locked in and collected three-consecutive punchouts to erase the threat and keep the game scoreless.
  • Two innings later in the top of the fourth, Team Red responded by putting runners on the corners with no outs courtesy of a walk to Gavin Kilen and a single by Green. Back-to-back walks to Tucker Toman and Ike Irish loaded the bases and then forced in the game’s first run.
  • A couple of Team Light Blue miscues in the field with the bases still loaded then allowed four more runs to cross the plate for Team Red to cap off a five-run fourth inning and give the squad a 5-0 advantage.
  • Team Light Blue got one back immediately in the bottom of the frame when Anthony Silva collected a single and stole second to get in scoring position before moving to third on a Team Red error and scoring on a Jacob Reimer single to make it a 5-1 game.
  • A leadoff double off the bat of Tejeda started things off in the next half inning before he advanced to third on a groundout and Lausch walked to put runners on the corners with two outs for Kilen, who knocked a single into right to bring Tejeda home for the 6-1 lead.
  • A quick response in the bottom of the fifth cut the deficit back to four as Team Light Blue’s offense continued to fire. Back-to-back one-out singles by Guidry and Clifford, followed Guidry swiping third put Gabe Miranda in perfect position to plate Guidry with a sac fly to right.
  • Team Light Blue took advantage of its momentum and a couple of Team Red errors in the bottom of the sixth to complete the bulk of its comeback, scoring four runs on two hits to tie the game at 6-6. The offensive burst was highlighted by RBI-singles from Dominic Hellman and Lukas Schramm.
  • Down to the final out, Cole Young put the finishing touches on Team Light Blue’s 7-6 comeback victory with a walkoff single that plated Clifford, who drew a leadoff walk to start the seventh and advanced to third on a Miranda single and a groundout.
