PEORIA, Ariz - The first title of the National Team Championships in Arizona was claimed Friday morning by Zoots baseball club as a huge, nine run inning led the team to a 14-5 victory over CBA Marucci National in the 17U championship at the Peoria Sports Complex in Peoria, Arizona. 

Zoots baseball came to play Friday as they jumped out to an early two run lead in the second inning. Back-to-back singles put Nicholas Kresnak and Tommy Splaine on base to score when Jonathan Cymrot doubled on a line drive.

CBA slashed the lead in half in the bottom of the third when Rocco Peppi reached base on a fielder's choice and was pushed across to score on a RBI single off the bat of Zavien Watson.

The Marucci National team nabbed the lead in the next inning, tying the game with a RBI single and taking a two-run lead. Jude Littrell put runners on scoring position with a sac bunt and Jake Vogel tripled to send Trevor Tishenkel and Landon Wallace home. 

From there, it was all Zoots. Back-to-back-back doubles by Gavin Napier, Davis Diaz, and Kresnak put Zoots up 7-5. The team continued to score, ending the top half of the fifth with an 11-5 lead thanks to Vincent Bianchina and Tommy Thrasher who each hit an RBI in the effort. 

Eight Zoots athletes had a hit in the game. Napier (2-for-3), Kresnak (2-for-4), Cymrot (3-for-3) and Wall (2-for-3) all had multi hit games.

Brett Wozniak, Sharp, Rio Britton, and Fisher Pyatt all spent time on the mound for CBA. The squad combined for 13 hits, 14 runs, six walks and three strikeouts. 

Thatcher Hurd collected the win for Zoots on the bump. He gave up five hits and two walks and struck out five batters in the contest.

Marsten Named Player, Lozano Named 14U Pitcher of the Day for July 7

PEORIA, Ariz. - On the final day of the 2019 USA Baseball National Team Championships in Arizona, Duncan Marsten and David Lozano have been named Player and Pitcher of the Day, respectively, for July 7. The PBA teammates propelled their squad to a 14-5 gold medal game win this morning.

Marsten went 2-for-2 with two singles in the championship match, knocking in three RBI while scoring a run. Marsten put PBA on the board first in the bottom of the second when he hit a lead off single to get on base and scored later in the inning to put his team up 1-0. He knocked in two more runs with another single in the bottom of the third to make it 3-0 PBA.

Lozano went the distance for PBA today, tossing six strikeouts and scattering four hits on his way to a complete game shut-out in just five innings of work. He threw 10 Ks in the tournament and did not give up a single run. He kept Sri-County off their toes, using just 70 pitches to nail down the championship.

Early Lead Wins Sports Academy Dukes Gold

PEORIA, Ariz. - In the championship matchup of the 16U National Team Championships in Arizona, the Sports Academy Dukes took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and maintained it until the end, gliding past the Chino Hills Storm, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Peoria Sports Complex. The gold medal is the first for the Dukes at the National Team Championships.

The Dukes got on the board early on in the bottom of the first inning, leading off the frame with a single. The Storm registered a ground out the next batter, but Reuben Hernandez stepped up for an RBI-single to make it 1-0 Storm. They tacked on two more with a bases-loaded single to jump up to a 3-0 lead after one.

Ryan Verdugo shined on the bump for the Dukes, scattering one earned run off seven hits in five innings of work. Liam Rocha also came in clutch in relief as he didn't give up a hit through two innings of work.

Again threatening in the second inning, the Dukes got two runners on with one out, but a clutch back pick to second by the catcher for a pickoff and a strikeout looking quickly ended the threat with none crossing the plate.

The Storm battled back in the third, scoring two runs off two singles to cut their deficit to just 3-2. Defensive prowess again saved the day, as the Duke left fielder laid out for a diving catch to end the threat.

Defense was the name of the game for the proceeding innings, as both teams held each other scoreless for the next two frames. The Dukes broke the streak in their half of the sixth, putting up one run to increase their padding.

Heading into the final half inning with a 5-2 lead, Rocha made quick work of the Storm to lead his team to gold. After striking out the first batter swinging on three pitches, Rocha induced a line out and fly out for outs two and three to clinch the victory.

PBA went a perfect 9-0 in tournament action and competed as the No. 1 seed in bracket play.

Big Hits and a Strong Arm on the Mound Lead PBA to 14U Gold

PEORIA, Ariz - David Lozano's effort on the mound, combined with PBA's eight runs on nine hits carried the team to gold over Tri County Baseball Club at the 14U National Team Championships on Sunday morning at the Peoria Sports Complex. 

Lozano went the distance for PBA today, tossing six strikeouts and scattering four hits on his way to a complete game shut-out in just five innings of work. He threw 10 Ks in the tournament and did not give up a single run. 

PBA's offense dominated against Tri County. Five athletes collected hits in the contest, including Dean West (1-for-3), Lozano (2-for-3), Duncan Marsten (2-for-2), Vincent Cervantes (2-for-2) and Will Gasparino (2-for-3). 

Jack Kelman and Marsten got the scoring frenzy started in the bottom of the second when Marsten singled on a line drive to center and scored on a Kelman sac-fly to left. PBA broke the lead wide open with four runs scored in the bottom of the third. 

PBA sealed the deal in the bottom of the fourth. Two walks and a single loaded the bases for Cervantes who hit a two run double to score Benjamin Reiland and Caden Abraham and make is 8-0 in PBA's favor.

Jackson Named Player, Rocha Named 16U Pitcher of the Day for July 6

SURPRISE, Ariz. - On the second day of the playoffs at the 16U National Team Championships in Arizona, Dante Jackson and Liam Rocha have been named pitcher and player of the day, respectively, for their efforts on July 6.

Jackson (MVP Hustle) tossed a complete game two-hit shutout for his squad today, using an efficient 75 pitches to do so. Jackson threw first pitch strikes to 17 of the 23 batters he faced in his team's quarterfinal matchup against Canyon Thunder while also striking out nine. Jackson also never allowed a runner to pass second base in MVP's 5-0 win to advance to the semifinals later that same afternoon.

Rocha (Sports Academy Dukes) went 1-for-3 at the plate in his semifinal matchup today, knocking crucial walk off single to propel his team into the championship game tomorrow at noon. He stepped up to the plate with the score tied at four and nailed a RBI-single to plate a run and forcing his team to a 5-4 victory. The squad scored all five runs in the final two frames.

Schmidt Named Player, Davis Named 14U Pitcher of the Day for July 6

PHOENIX - After quarter and semifinal action at the 2019 USA Baseball 14U National Team Championships in Arizona, Carl Schmidt and Davis have been named player and pitcher of the day, respectively, for their performances on July 6.

Schmidt went 4-for-6 at the plate with two RBI and two runs today across two games for Tri County Baseball. He hit two singles and two doubles on his way to helping Tri County defeat BPA and Total Vipers Baseball and earn a spot in the Gold Medal Game. 

Davis pitched a two-hit complete game shut-out for PBA today, as hit performance was the difference maker in their 2-0 win over San Diego Show. He struck out three while not walking a single batter and also didn't allow an extra base hit in his seven innings of work.

SURPRISE, Ariz. - In a semifinal matchup of the 16U National Team Championships in Arizona, the Sports Academy Dukes launched an epic comeback win, putting up five runs in the final two frames to walk off on Trosky Baseball 16U National, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon at Surprise Stadium. With the win, the squad advances to the gold medal game tomorrow at noon.

After a quiet first inning for both teams, Trosky broke the silence first with two runs in the top of the second inning. Rebounding from a leadoff flyout, Matthew Halbach followed with a single and Jordan Davis followed with a walk to put two on with one out. That set the table for Greysen Carter, who stepped up to knock a two-RBI double, putting his team up 2-0.

Nick Mclain started on the hill for Trosky, scattering three hits across five innings of work without having given up a run. On the other side of the field, Andrew Lopez was solid in relief for the Dukes, giving up just one unearned run off two hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Trosky added another run in the fourth and some more insurance in the sixth, capitalizing off a throwing error by the Dukes to send a runner across the plate to make it a 4-0 Trosky lead.

Down but not out, the Dukes fought back in the home half of the sixth as an error, single, hit-by-pitch and double to begin the frame added up to three runs on the board, cutting their deficit to just 4-3. Although there were none out, the Trosky defense notched a ground out and a double play to limit the damage to three.

The Dukes stepped up to the plate in their final chance of the afternoon down by just one run. They got off to a good start, getting their first batter on base through a hit-by-pitch. Mike Flores drove a RBI-double into the gap to tie the ballgame up at four, and the next batter followed with a walk to leave it up to Liam Rocha. He came in clutch for his team, knocking a walk off single to plate a run to win, 5-4.

PEORIA, Ariz. - An early lead sealed Tri County Baseball Club's trip to the championship on Friday when they defeated Total Baseball Vipers 9-1 at the Peoria Sports Complex in Peoria, Arizona. 

In the first inning, Tri County's Brady Reynolds smacked a hard ground ball triple to right that scored Carl Schmidt from first. The team maintained the lead as they picked up multiple runs in the third and sixth innings. 

Total Vipers tried to respond in the bottom of the sixth when a walk and two singles loaded the bases with one out. Luke Gallegos singled on a ground ball to second baseman, Jake Porter and pushed Ethan Munoz across for Vipers' only run. 

Six athletes notched hits for Tri County. Carl Schmidt (2-for-3) and Toby Twist (2-for-4) each hit a single and a double in the contest. 

Justin Cuellar and Colton O'Toole combined for six strikeouts in the victory. Cuellar collected the win, scattering six hits and giving up no runs in 4.2 innings of work.

Douglas Named Player, Robinson Named 14U Pitcher of the Day for July 5

PHOENIX, Ariz. - On day one of the playoffs at the 14U National Team Championships in Arizona, Xander Douglas and Duce Robinson were named pitcher and player of the day, respectively, for their efforts on July 5.

Douglas (SGV Arsenal) used 92 pitches in seven innings of work for his team, scattering five hits with one unearned run in the outing. He struck out seven batters while walking just one, setting the table for his team's extra-inning 4-3 victory over Rijo Athletics.

Robinson (3D Gold) went 3-for-3 with three doubles this afternoon, knocking in two RBI while scoring three runs in 3D Gold's 12-3 route of SGV Arsenal. His first RBI of the day gave his team a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first while his second RBI-double made the score 10-3 in the bottom of the fourth.

Graves Named Player, MacKay Named 16U Pitcher of the Day for July 5

PHOENIX, Ariz. - On day one of the playoffs at the 16U National Team Championships in Arizona, Samuel Graves and Jamie MacKay were named pitcher and player of the day, respectively, for their efforts on July 5.

Graves (MBA Utah) pitched a one-hit, complete game shutout for his squad and was crucial in their 3-0 win over the So Cal Birds White. He was efficient in seven innings, throwing 88 pitches - 68 for strikes - and throwing first pitch strikes to 16 of the 24 batters. The one hit Graves allowed was a double, giving up just three baserunners off the double and two errors.

MacKay (BPA OC) was huge in her squad's 5-4 win over NorCal Baseball 2021 Blue, going 3-for-3 with two singles and a double. MacKay batted in three of BPA's five runs for five RBI on the afternoon including the crucial fifth insurance run in the top of the fifth off a RBI-single.

SURPRISE, Ariz. - On day one of playoff action at the 16U National Team Championships in Arizona, Logan Schweizer, Cole Johnson, Nicolas Salcido and Nick Solorzano all notched multiple hits as BPA defeated the San Diego Stars, 9-3, on Friday afternoon at Surprise Stadium. With the win, the squad advances to the Round of 16 tomorrow.

Both teams started off the game relatively slow offensively, as each starter kept each other off the board for the first two innings. BPA broke the silence first, starting off the inning with a ground out but bouncing back with a walk, three singles and a triple to put four runs on the board.

BPA starter Kamden Cisneros went three solid innings for his squad, tossing 5 1/3 innings while scattering three runs - keeping the Stars off the board for the first three innings - off six hits while striking out one.

The Stars put up one run in each of the last four innings, but BPA responded with more insurance runs in the top of seventh to pad their lead. The squad kicked off the inning with their first four batters reaching base off a hit-by-pitch and four-straight singles off the bats of Schweizer, Johnson, Salcido and Solorzano. Schweizer finished the afternoon with three hits and scored three runs while Johnson, Salcido and Solorzano notched two hits each.

Jacob Entrekin highlighted the Stars offensively, putting up two runs while knocking in one RBI. Hector Millan Jr. also added two RBI off two sacrifice flies.
