12U Open Development Camp
The fifth year of the USA Baseball Open Development Program will consist of local development camps held from January through early June 2018. These events will emphasize player-development techniques and will use curriculum designed by current and former USA Baseball staff. To register for a 12U Open Development Camp please click here.
Players will be recommended to USA Baseball by coaches hosting the 12U Open Development Camps, from which 112 total athletes will be invited to attend the USA Baseball National Open. The National Open will be held in California. A minimum of 14 players will be invited from the National Open to participate in the 2018 12U National Team Trials immediately following the event.
The USA Baseball 11U Futures Invitational will be used as an additional identification opportunity. The Futures Invitational is a team-based championship tournament of 11U teams that will take place June 21 - 24, 2018, and will be held at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.
From the Futures Invitational, USA Baseball will select a minimum of eight players to participate in the 12U National Team Trials.
National Team Identification Series
Players may also qualify for the 12U National Team Trials by competing in the preceding year's National Team Identification Series (NTIS). The NTIS gives USA Baseball an advanced look at the upcoming class of national-team players at the 11U, 13U, 14U, 16U, and 17U competition levels.
At the NTIS, USA Baseball task force members will identify a minimum of 12 players for the following season's 12U National Team Trials. Players can participate in the NTIS through a regional qualification process. 12 athletes have been selected for the 2018 12U National Team Trials following their performances at the 2017 NTIS.
12U National Team Trials
After the 12U selection process has completed, players will report to the 12U National Team Trials in California. As with all USA Baseball national-team training and trials opportunities, the 12U National Team Trials is an all-expenses paid experience. At the 12U National Team Trials, players will participate in Stripes vs. Stars intrasquad scrimmages, workouts and other team-building activities.
At the conclusion of the Trials, USA Baseball task force members and the 12U National Team staff will select the final roster of 18 players for the 2018 12U National Team.
