San Diego Show Captures Gold at 11U Futures Invitational

Seven-run second inning lifts San Diego to first-ever Futures gold

CARY, N.C. – A seven-run second inning lifted San Diego Show to a 10-3 win over Top Tier in the 11U Futures Invitational title game on Sunday afternoon at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, North Carolina.

The gold medal is the first in program history for San Diego Show, which has now captured five total 11U Futures medals. Top Tier’s silver medal is its second in program history and third total gold medal after it won gold in 2017.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Top Tier struck early with a run in the first inning, when Chase Smith scored on an RBI groundout by Johnathon Hode after drawing a walk, moving to second on a sacrifice bunt, and stealing third.
  • Top Tier doubled its lead in the second thanks to Braden Murray’s run-scoring single to center field, allowing Justice Williams to cross home plate after he started the frame with a single up the middle.
  • San Diego Show exploded for seven runs on four hits in its half of the second to take a commanding 7-2 lead. The first run scored on a wild pitch, and then Ted Conway’s RBI single three at-bats later knotted the score at 2-2.
  • A sacrifice fly, followed by back-to-back RBI groundouts and a Top Tier error drove in four more runs to make it 6-2. Wyatt Peabody’s line drive single to score Carson Reis from third capped off San Diego Show’s scoring in the second.
  • An RBI single by Murray got Top Tier back within four in the top of the third.
  • San Diego Show grabbed another run in the bottom of the third when John Kauffmann singled and came around to score on an RBI groundout by Dylan La.
  • A two-run fourth, thanks to a Mateo Parker sac fly and an RBI groundout by Kauffmann, helped San Diego pull away even further and take a 10-3 lead.
  • Silas Entrekin smoked a two-run double and Reis drove him home to cap off the 13-3, run-rule victory and secure the 11U Futures title.
