2019 16U Cup Comes to a Close on Sunday

TPA Nationals 1, GNYSAA 0


TPA Nationals defeated GNYSAA in a pitcher's duel 1-0 on Sunday at the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
After both teams went the first four innings without recording a run, it was TPA Nationals who were able to break through with the game's only run thanks to an RBI-single from Alec Benger that found the left field grass and allowed Brendan Burke to cross the plate. Both teams had efficient pitching, only allowing four hits apiece.
Benger earned the win for TPA Nationals after three innings pitched. Jacob Coffin helped TPA Nationals from the mound with seven recorded strikeouts. Ethan Garcia suffered the loss for GNYSAA.
TPA Nationals and GNYSAA both finished the tournament 2-2.

Virginia Cardinals 4, US Elite 1


Virginia Cardinals used a four-run inning to defeat US Elite in the semifinals and earn a spot in the gold medal match on Sunday at the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
After two scoreless innings, US Elite's James Michel hit a sacrifice-fly to right field and allowed teammate Christian Shertzer to cross the plate. Virginia Cardinals earned three walks and tallied three hits to score four runs in the bottom of the third. Both teams were held scoreless for the remainder of the game. 
Thomas Reilly earned the win for Virginia Cardinals after 5.2 innings pitched and six punchouts. Michael Jensen suffered the loss for US Elite.
Both US Elite and Virginia Cardinals finished the tournament 3-2.

East Coast Clippers 4, Team Elite American 3


East Coast Clippers walk off Team Elite American 4-3 Sunday morning to secure a spot in the 2019 USA Baseball 16U Cup gold medal game at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.
Neither team wasted any time getting on the board as Team Elite American jumped out to a two-run lead in the first, but East Coast Clippers answered back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 2-1 game. 
With the game tied at three apiece headed into the seventh, the Clippers prevented Team Elite American from scoring to set up a potential walk-off situation. Team Elite American recorded the first two outs of the inning, but a two-out walk sparked hope. 
With a runner on first and two away, Jack Boyles doubled to center field to drive in the run and walk it off for the East Coast Clippers. The final score was 4-3.
With the win, East Coast Clippers move to 4-0 at the 16U Cup and will play in the championship game on Coleman field at 11:00 am ET. Team Elite American fall to 2-2 after the loss and will play US Elite at 11:00 am ET for bronze.

Blue Chips 9, Purpose Driven Baseball 3


Purpose Driven Baseball capitalized on nine hits to score nine runs and defeat Blue Chips 9-3 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina on Sunday.
The two teams battled back and forth for much of the game, with Purpose Driven Baseball scoring a run in each of the second and fifth innings, while Blue Chips scored one in the third and fourth. 
With the two teams still tied in the sixth, Purpose Driven Baseball rallied for a big bottom of the sixth to score seven runs on five hits and four walks, putting them out to a late 9-3 lead.
With the win, Purpose Driven Baseball move to 1-3 at the 16U Cup while Blue Chips fall to 0-4 after the loss.
