GNYSAA Defeat Blue Chips After Walk-Off on Day One of 16U Cup

CARY, N.C. - In a back-and-fourth affair, GNYSAA was able to edge out a win in walk-off fashion, defeating Blue Chips 4-3 on Friday at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. 

Blue Chips' Michael Segreti got his team on the board first with an RBI-double in the top of the second. GNYSAA responded in the bottom of the second after Liam Gavigan took advantage of a wild pitch and reached home to tie the game. After two scoreless innings in the top of the fifth, Blue Chips regained the lead following an RBI-double from Scooter Summa, allowing Johnathan Kline to reach home. 

GNYSAA answered quickly in the bottom of the fifth with two runs of their own after Marc Pardo lined an RBI-double to center field, bringing home Robert De Larosa and Jeremy Diaz and putting GNYSAA up a run. In the following inning, Blue Chips' Ben Schleiff stole second and eventually reached home thanks to an RBI-single from Michael Gibson-Robinson to tie the game at three runs apiece. In the bottom of the seventh and with the bases loaded, Christopher Martinez took advantage of a wild pitch and scored the game-winning run for GNYSAA.

GNYSAA's offense was led by Gavigan who went 2-for-3 and Pardo who went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Martinez recorded six strikeouts on five innings pitched for GNYSAA.

Ethan Garcia earned the win for GNYSAA. Logan Palmer suffered the loss for Blue Chips.

GNYSAA improved to 2-0, while Blue Chips fell to 0-2.
