Augie Schmidt was a standout shortstop for the Privateers, good enough to be selected second overall in the 1982 MLB First-Year Player Draft. He spent parts of five seasons in the Minor Leagues, twice reaching Double-A. After retiring from baseball, Schmidt has had a very successful career as head baseball coach at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisc., where he has won more than 600 games and a compiled a winning percentage of better than .700.
