Derek Dietrich was selected in the third round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft as the first pick of the Houston Astros, but elected to enroll at Georgia Tech instead. He has been a dominant presence since his freshman season and has started every game at shortstop since his arrival. During the 2010 regular season, Dietrich batted .374 with 15 doubles, 16 home runs and 58 RBIs in his third season on the Yellow Jackets while maintaining a 3.40 cumulative GPA as a management major. The junior shortstop helped the 2008 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team win a gold medal at the FISU World University Championships.
