Roster Announced for 2025 18U National Team Training Camp Phase 2

Forty-two players to compete for final 20 roster spots before U-18 World Cup

CARY, N.C. – USA Baseball today announced the roster for the second phase of 2025 18U National Team Training Camp. The roster features 42 players who will vie for the final 20 spots on the 2025 18U National Team that will compete in the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 Baseball World Cup in Okinawa, Japan.

Phase 2 is scheduled for August 24-27 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex and will feature intrasquad exhibitions, on-field workouts, and more. Following the conclusion of Phase 2, the final 20-player roster will travel to Japan for the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup, which will be held from September 5-14.

“We had an extremely competitive first phase of Training Camp, which made the decision-making process very difficult,” said 18U National Team Program Director Brett Curll. “We are moving forward with forty-two athletes who give us the best chance to continue to compete before we narrow the roster down to twenty players and travel to Japan for the World Cup.”

Nine USA Baseball alumni are among the 42 players on the Phase 2 roster. Three-time Team USA alum Grady Emerson, who played for the 18U National Team last summer, will aim to make a U.S. roster for the fourth consecutive summer and is joined on the roster by 2022 15U National Team teammates Carson Bolemon and Andrew Costello. Emerson–who also played for the 15U National Team in 2023–is one of five players from that squad coming to Training Camp Phase 2, as he will be joined by teammates Wilson Andersen, Trey Ebel, Brady Harris, and Jorvorskie Lane Jr.

Additionally, Dariel Carrion and two-time USA Baseball alum Jared Grindlinger will reunite after playing for the 15U National Team in 2024 and competing at the 2025 16U/17U National Team Development Program (NTDP). Grindlinger was also a member of the 2021 12U National Team.

Including Carrion and Grindlinger, a total of 20 players invited to Phase 2 of Training Camp have participated in USA Baseball development programming, accounting for nearly half of the roster. Seventeen players have been members of the NTDP, while seven have participated in USA Baseball’s Athlete Development Program (ADP). Andersen, Grindlinger, and Kevin Roberts Jr. have each participated in multiple development programs with USA Baseball.

The 2025 18U National Team will be managed by eight-time Team USA coach Rick Eckstein. He will be joined on staff by his brother, 2006 World Series MVP David Eckstein, along with two-time MLB All-Star Brad Penny and longtime high school coach Steve Stone.

An additional group of nine coaches with big-league ties will attend Phase 2 to assist the national team staff. Kirk Champion will continue his role as pitching coordinator, and the Stars vs. Stripes games will be managed by Jack Wilson and Doug Mientkiewicz. Stephen Strasburg and Luke Gregerson assume pitching coach duties, and Rick Ankiel, Mike McKenry, Tim Raines Jr., and Brian Schneider will be assistant coaches.
