GOODYEAR, Ariz - The CBA Marucci Nationals pitching staff tossed a combined no-hitter to lead the team to a 4-0 victory over the San Diego Gamers on Sunday at the Goodyear Sports Complex in Goodyear, Arizona.
CBA starter Desmond Cabanilla tossed seven strikeouts using 63 pitches during his four innings of work. Brett Wozniak took over for the final three innings and struck out five batters to help CBA earn the win.
The Nationals grabbed the early advantage, pushing two runs across the plate in the bottom of the first. With two outs on the board and runners in scoring position, Ildefonso Ruiz sent a line drive single up the middle to score Rocco Peppi and Zavien Watson to pull out to a 2-0 lead.
San Diego saw its first runner in the top of the third. Wyatt Bush fouled off a Cabanilla pitch before taking four straight balls to make his way to first with a walk. CBA ended the effort in the next at-bat with a ground out to third to end their threat.
CBA solidified its win by nabbing two more runs in the fourth. A single and a stolen base put Vogel in position and Fisher Pyatt knocked an RBI single into left to plate Vogel. Pyatt himself then crossed the plate on a Zavien Watson fly ball to right.
The Gamers made another scoring attempt in the top of the fourth when two walks and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases with one out, but Canbanilla was able to hold them off and maintain the shutout.
San Diego's Mason Gehling allowed four runs on five hits and struck out one in three innings before Cameron Bradshaw took over on the mound. Bradshaw sent three batters packing and held CBA to four runs in the final three innings of play.
CBA and San Diego will await scheduling for Monday's matchups. Game times and opponents for Monday action will be announced late Sunday evening.
