GOODYEAR, Ariz. - West Coast Baseball scored in the first and never gave up the lead en route to a 6-2 victory over Mamba Sports Academy on Wednesday morning at the Goodyear Sports Complex in Goodyear, Arizona.
The West Coast scoring drive began in the first when Nate Kaczynski hit a lead off single and later scored on an error. Both teams went three up, three down for the next five frames of action until West Coast put up another run in the fourth.
In the fifth, West Coast capitalized on a no-outs, bases loaded situation and scored two runs to go up 4-0 in the contest. Evan Landsman and Nolan Shea scored on a sac-fly and single, respectively. The sixth saw a similar situation when runners in scoring position were about to score and give West Coast its final two runs of the game.
Mamba looked to make a comeback in the bottom of the seventh. A single, a walk, and a fielder's choice put in position to score on a Christopher Tampoya double to right. Mamba was able to end the shutout but couldn't keep the comeback alive.
Kaczynski tossed six shut out innings on the mound for West Coast, scattering three hits and striking three out in the effort. Will Kaczynski came in for the save in the seventh.
Mamba (1-3) will play two consolation games to end the tournament. West Coast Baseball went 2-2 in pool play action and will wait for the 32 team bracket to be announced on Wednesday evening.
