Roundup: 11U Futures Invitational Day Two

After an action packed day of baseball, Day Two of the 11U Futures Invitational wrapped up with the quarterfinal matchups set.

Pool play concluded after an action-packed day two at Thomas Brooks Park and Middle Creek Park in Cary, N.C. Friday’s slate featured comeback victories, shutouts, and plenty of offensive production at the plate. Here is all of the action from today’s games!

ZT Prospects East 10, Ghost National 7

In a high-scoring affair, ZT Prospects East collected 14 hits on the way to a big comeback win over Ghost National Friday morning. Colin Nunan had a solid day at the plate, going 1-for-3, collecting three RBIs and scoring a run. Ghost National scored all seven runs in the first four innings, jumping out to an early lead. After being down 7-3 going into the fourth frame, ZT Prospects East never gave up. A huge seventh-inning rally saw five runs score for ZT, all while scoring seven unanswered runs, holding a 10-7 lead going into the last frame of the game. Following a leadoff error, Hudson Jones retired the next three batters in order, finishing his day with 6.2 innings pitched, giving up four hits and four runs, while striking out three. With this gritty performance, ZT Prospects East's comeback win was complete.

Aviator Nation 7, The Future Elite 2

Starting the scoring with an inside-the-park home run from Carlos Murray Jr., The Future Eltie captured an early two-run lead in the fourth inning. Aviator Nation used solid pitching performances to stay in the game. In the bottom of the sixth, Aviator Nation used three singles and a double to drive home seven unanswered runs to come back and win the game. After 2.2 innings of no-hit baseball from Carter Fusco, Aviator Nation passed the ball off to Sylvan Luckie, as the squad used Luckie’s performance to finish the game; ending his day with 4.1 innings of work, while giving up just two earned runs.

I Am United 11, San Diego Show 10

In a matchup with a total of 23 hits combined, I Am United walked off the San Diego Show after an eventful seventh inning. Leading the team in RBIs with three, Noah King had a day at the plate, scoring two runs and going 1-for-3 with a triple. With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh, Brody Pemberton came up to the plate with the game on the line. Hitting a fly ball to the left field grass, Pemberton drove home the winning run for I Am United and secured the walk-off win.

Arizona Elite Baseball Academy 2, Texas Twelve 1

In the lowest scoring contest of the day, a two-run first inning and a masterful pitching performance from Eli Rodriguez was all it took for Arizona Elite Baseball Academy to walk away with a win. An impressive outing saw Rodriguez go 6.1 innings, striking out a pair and allowing only one earned run. Driving in the first and only two runs for Arizona Elite, an RBI single from Rodriguez and an RBI fielder's choice from Oliver Barnsley was all the team needed. Closing out the game for Arizona Elite Baseball Academy and recording the last two outs was Oscar Coronado, who needed only four pitches to secure the win.
