
FULLERTON, Calif. - Pete Crow-Armstrong (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) and Yohandy Morales (Miami, Fla.) each went 1-for-1 with two RBIs for the Stripes and Stars, respectively, as the Stars claimed a 3-2 victory in the third game of the 2019 18U National Team Trials on Thursday at Fullerton Junior College in Fullerton, California. The Stars improved to 3-0 and clinched the series with the win.
Jack Bulger (Bowie, Md.), Robert Hassell (Franklin, Tenn.) and Kevin Parada (Pasadena, Calif.) added hits for the Stars in the win, while Drew Bowser (Woodland Hills, Calif.) went 1-for-1 with a run scored for the Stripes.
Mick Abel (Portland, Ore.) got the start for the Stars and earned the win, giving up two runs on two hits while striking out four in his three innings of work. For the Stripes, Nate Savino (Sterling, Va.) started on the mound and allowed three runs on four hits to get tagged with the loss.
KEY MOMENTS
- The Stars jumped out to an early lead in the contest when Ed Howard (Chicago, Ill.) drew a walk and Bulger singled to bring up Morales who roped a two-RBI double to left-center, giving the Stars a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
- In the bottom half of the first, the Stripes' Crow-Armstrong collected a two-RBI single after Hunter Haas (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Bowser led off the inning with a walk and a double, respectively, to tie the game at 2-2.
- The final run of the game was scored in the top of the second by Parada, who hit a leadoff triple and crossed the plate on a wild pitch to give the Stars a 3-2 lead and the win.
