
FULLERTON, Calif. - Seven players collected hits as the Stars came from behind for the second night in a row to defeat the Stripes, 3-2, in game two of the 2019 18U National Team Trials on Wednesday, August 14, at Fullerton Junior College in Fullerton, California.
On the offensive side for the Stars, Robert Moore (Leawood, Kan.) finished 1-for-1 with a run scored and a game-high two walks. Jackson Miller (New Port Richey, Fla.) led the Stripes offense on Wednesday evening, collecting a game-high two hits, while Austin Hendrick (Pittsburgh, Pa.) hit the third home run of 18U Trials.
Alejandro Rosario (Miami, Fla.) tossed two innings in relief for the Stars without giving up an earned run and collected the win. For the Stripes, Max Carlson (Savage, Minn.) suffered the loss after giving up two runs in his 2.2 innings of work.
KEY MOMENTS
- Hendrick got the scoring started in the contest when he crushed a ball over the right field wall to lead off the second inning and give the Stripes an early 1-0 lead.
- A one-out single from Moore and a walk to Enrique Bradfield Jr. (Hialeah, Fla.) got the Stars offense started in the bottom of the third inning before Parada singled to bring in Moore and tie the game at one run apiece.
- The Stripes took back the lead in the top of the sixth courtesy of a Tyler Soderstrom (Turlock, Calif.) RBI single that scored Colt Keith (Biloxi, Miss.) and gave the team a 2-1 advantage.
- Following Soderstrom's RBI single, Cayden Wallace (Greenbrier, Ark.) drew a walk and Miller singled to load the bases with just one out for the Stripes, but Stars pitcher Rosario escaped the jam with a strikeout and a fly out to end the inning and keep the Stars within one.
- Drew Romo (Spring, Texas) led off the bottom of the sixth with a triple to put the tying run 90 feet away for Alex Urban (Lexington, S.C.) who laced a single to left-center to tie the game again, 2-2.
- Urban stole second and third before scoring on a throwing error to give the Stars their first lead of the game and a 3-2 victory.
