TAINAN, Taiwan - Alexander Mercurius (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Brenden Lewis (Santee, Calif.) combined to throw a no-hitter as the USA Baseball 12U National Team dropped South Africa, 18-0, to conclude the 2019 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-12 Baseball World Cup on Saturday at ASPAC B stadium in Tainan, Taiwan.
 



Team USA concluded the 2019 WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup with a 6-2 overall record, while South Africa finished the tournament with a 1-7 overall record. The U.S. outscored its opponents 118-21 in the tournament. Saturday's second game of the doubleheader marked the team's first no-hitter of the tournament. The U.S. held opponents to one hit or less in four games of the 2019 WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup.

Mercurius set the tone on the mound for Team USA after striking out three in two hitless innings on the mound to earn the win. Lewis entered the game in the third inning and struck out all three batters that he faced to complete the no-hitter. South Africa's Jaedon Jonathan (0-1) suffered the loss.

Jaiden Lo Re (Oakland, Calif.) led the U.S. at the plate after going 3-for-3, including a double and a home run, while recording three RBIs and scoring two runs. Lo Re became the seventh different player to log a home run for Team USA with a two-RBI home run in the first inning. Three members of Team USA added two hits on the day, including Lucas Tinajero (Corpus Christi, Texas), who picked up his sixth multi-hit game of the tournament. Tinajero picked up his team-leading fourth home run with a two-RBI shot in the bottom of the first.
