Day Two of 12U National Team Training Camp Wrapped up Along With Game One of Stars vs. Stripes Series

On the second day of 12U National Team Training Camp, players practiced hard in the early morning hours in preparation for game one of the Stars vs. Stripes series. The intrasquad scrimmage served to promote player development and help coaches and Task Force evaluate the 36-player roster prior to USA Baseball’s 12U National Team announcement this Friday.

Getting the scoring started for the Stars was Jaxon Spray, who scored on a wild pitch in the third frame. Spray was followed by Duncan Mount, who scored the team’s second run on an error, putting the score at 2-0 Stars.

In the bottom of the third and with two runners on, Matthew Vasquez singled to center on a hard ground ball to drive home the Stripes' first run of the game.

After two straight walks, the Stars got another run home off a wild pitch, extending the lead 3-1.

With a runner on third, Jake Romero hit a ground ball to the pitcher. Trying to make a quick play to the plate but sending the throw wide ended up bringing home the second run of the game for the Stripes.

Zachary Wilburn continued the rally with a ground ball single to left, bringing home Romero and putting the score at 6-3 Stars.

Cutting the deficit to one run in the bottom of the fifth at 6-5, Team Stripes used a leadoff triple by Weston Whittaker to land a runner in scoring position early. He later scored off a defensive miscue and was followed by Kayden Paysinger, who recorded a single to shortstop to bring home Hatch.

Putting up a three-spot in the top of the sixth, the Stars extended the lead after a triple by Jack Carson and a single from Armando Maciel.

AJ Elliot led off the bottom half of the sixth with a single and came around and score off of Blain Watson’s single of his own.

Cutting the lead to two runs, Dariel Rivero brought in Watson on a groundout to second base, making it 9-7 Stars.

Players at the 12U National Team Training Camp will be back in action tomorrow for game two of the Stars vs. Stripes Series.
