10U Futures Invitational Day 2 Recap

Semifinal round standings set after two undefeated match-ups on the second day of play

DURHAM, N.C. -- The second round of pool play in the 10U Futures Invitational kicked off at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, N.C. starting with the Alamo Drillers vs. Five Star Tigers at 8:00 a.m. At the end of Day 2 and pool play, the Alamo Drillers and the Top Tier Americans finished on top with a 3-0-0 record followed by Parkview Panthers (2-0-1), TBSA Patriots (2-0-1), and ATP Baseball (2-0-1).
The semifinal and consolation rounds of the tournament will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Live scoring and streaming will continue on USABaseball.com.

Game 17- Alamo Drillers (3-0-0) vs. Five Star Tigers (2-1-0)
The Alamo Drillers (Texas) came out on top in the first battle of undefeated teams on Friday with a 6-1 win over the Five Star Tigers (Fla.), clinching a spot in the semifinals. The Drillers were led by Bryce Dixon who went 2-for-3 with three RBI. The winning pitcher for the Drillers was Tristan Bristow, holding the Tigers to one run in four innings and recording five strikeouts.

Game 18- CBA (1-2-0) vs. STL Spikes (0-3-0)
CBA (Calif.) defeated the STL Spikes (Mo.) 15-1 in just five innings after scoring five runs in the third inning and six in the fifth. Matt Szymarek and Bodie Tidwell led CBA's offensive charge with a combined four hits and three RBI each. CBA's 18 stolen bases helped them dominate the board and resulted in their first win of the 10U Futures Invitational.

Game 19- LA Xtreme (1-2-0) vs. TBSA Patriots (2-0-1)
The TBSA Patriots (Fla.) put up a strong performance behind the plate starting in the first, leading them to a 9-1 win against the LA Xtreme (Calif.). Leading TBSA's offensive output was JD Howard, who went 3-for-3 with three RBI. The winning pitcher for the Patriots, Cal Johnson, held LA Xtreme to one run in his four-inning outing.

Game 20- Louisville Sting (1-2-0) vs. Team Elite (2-0-1)
Field 8 saw an offensive battle between the Louisville Sting (La.) and Team Elite (Ga.) in the first session of games on Day 2 of the 10U Futures Invitational. After taking a 2-1 lead in the first, Team Elite didn't look back and clinched a 7-3 victory. The Louisville Sting converted three of its four hits in the contest. Sam Summerlin came out swinging in the first and led Team Elite, going 3-for-3 with three RBI. Another top offensive contributor for Team Elite was John Legume who finished 2-for-3 with three RBI. After working through five pitchers, Ayden Phillips was the winning pitcher for Team Elite.

Game 21- Florida Chargers (1-1-1) vs Rawlings Stars Nationals (1-2-0)
The Rawlings Stars Nationals (S.C.) clinched their first win of the 10U Futures Invitational and they won big, outscoring the Florida Chargers (Fla.) 18-3 in the fifth. The Rawlings Stars Nationals found their rhythm in the third, adding 11 runs to the board. Gavin Maines led the Rawlings Stars Nationals power behind the plate, going 3-for-3. Gunner Alm, who recorded eight strikeouts on Day 1 topped offensive charts today, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI. The winning pitcher for the Rawlings Stars Nationals was Micah Simpson.

Game 22- Parkview Panthers (2-0-1) vs. San Diego Show (1-2-0)
A consistent performance at the plate led the Parkview Panthers (Ga.) to an 8-2 win over the San Diego Show (Calif.). The San Diego Show outscored the Panthers in the first 2-1, but could not add anything else to the board. With at least one run in every inning but one, the Panthers topped the offensive charts. Ford Thompson led this charge, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Jon Holcomb, Elijah Miller, and Porter Berryman followed, all finishing 2-for-3 with a combined four RBI. Pitching five innings and grabbing three strikeouts, the Panther's Mason Davis was recorded as the winning pitcher.

Game 23- ATP Baseball (2-1-0) vs. Top Tier Americans (3-0-0)
A walk-off win for the Top Tier Americans (Calif.) ended a back and forth battle at 6-5 against ATP Baseball (Ariz.). Both teams ended Day 1 with a 2-0 record. ATP Baseball scored three early in the first and held on to its lead until the fourth when the Top Tier Americans tied it at 4. A triple by Top Tier's Seth Hernandez started the comeback, bringing in two runs. Tanner Carlson followed with a one-run single and a strong offensive performance, going 2-for-3 on the day. Julius Pfau finished 2-for-4 and is to thank for the walk-off single in the seventh. Seth Hernandez was recorded as the winning pitcher for the Top Tier Americans.

Game 24- NJ Hurricanes (0-3-0) vs. Traction Canes Black (1-2-0)
The final game of Day 2 of the 10U Futures Invitational was dominated by the Traction Canes Black (Ky.), as they shutout the NJ Hurricanes (N.J.) 6-0. Four Traction Canes Black pitcher's contributed to the defensive performance. Michael Staley and David Marsh grabbed two strikeouts each, while starting pitcher Kolby Hunter was recorded as the winning pitcher. The Traction Canes Black offense came out strong, scoring 4 runs in the first. Jacob McCann knocked in the first run of the game with a single and remained consistent, going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI. Thomas Bonaventure also added to this early lead with a triple, resulting in two runs.
