
DANVILLE, Va. – The 2026 Collegiate National Team continued its Training Camp exhibition slate on Sunday at American Legion Post 325 Field in Danville, Virginia. The Stars fell 4-3 to the Johnson City Doughboys in the afternoon before the Stripes defeated the Danville Otterbotts 9-1 to close out the two-game day.
Johnson City Doughboys 4, Stars 3
- The first two innings went scoreless as Stars starting pitcher Grayden Harris tossed two shutout innings with three strikeouts.
- The Stars opened the scoring in the third inning when Kolby Branch launched a 416-foot home run to left field that left the bat at 108 mph.
- Ryker Waite followed with a bunt single and later scored on a Derrick Pitts RBI groundout to give the Stars a 2-0 lead.
- Anderson Nance entered in relief in the third and struck out one in a 1-2-3 inning.
- After a scoreless fourth, the Stars extended their lead in the fifth. Two walks and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases before Hogan Denny lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, pushing the lead to 3-0.
- The Doughboys got on the board in the fifth when Jackson Geiger scored on an Anthony Temesvary RBI groundout, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
- Johnson City tied the game in the sixth. Walter Urbon led off with a double before Gunner Skelton later followed with an RBI double. Nathan Eisfelder added another RBI double in the inning to even the score at 3-3.
- The Stars were unable to rally in the seventh, and the Doughboys scored the winning run on an RBI single in the bottom of the inning to secure the 4-3 victory.
Stripes 9, Danville Otterbots 1
- The Stripes got on the board first in the opening inning as Jorian Wilson doubled to left field before Ethin Bingaman drove him home with an RBI single for a 1-0 lead.
- After an unconventional 1-2-3 bottom of the first, the Stripes added to their lead in the second. A walk and two hit-by-pitches loaded the bases for Rett Johnson, who plated a runner on a sacrifice fly to center field. Nico Partida followed with an RBI infield single, extending the lead to 3-0.
- The Otterbots scored their lone run in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly after a walk and a single put two runners aboard, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
- Aiden Stillman worked the third and fourth innings in relief, striking out two while recording a 1-2-3 fourth inning.
- The Stripes added two more runs in the fourth. JD Stein drew a walk before R. Johnson singled to put two runners on for Partida, who lined an RBI single. On the same play, Stein came around to score on a throwing error by Danville’s catcher, pushing the advantage to 5-1.
- In relief, Andrew Johnson tossed a 1-2-3 sixth inning with one strikeout before the Stripes put the game away in the seventh.
- R. Johnson led off the seventh inning with an infield single before Partida recorded his third hit of the day, an RBI double to right field. Bingaman followed with an RBI single to center field and the Stripes weren’t done there. A walk put another runner aboard and Jacob Parker followed with a single to right field, plating another run. To cap the four-run inning, Trey Callaway hit an RBI groundout to put the Stripes up 9-1.
- Closing it out, Evan Jones struck out the leadoff batter before a 6-4-3 double play sealed the 9-1 victory.
Up next, USA Baseball’s Collegiate National Team Training Camp will play a doubleheader at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina on Monday, June 29. Both the Stars and Stripes will face the Appalachian League Select team, with the first game beginning at 3:00 p.m. ET and the second set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
