
PEORIA, Ariz.- GBG I. E. 2020 utilized a balanced offensive attack to defeat CBA Marucci South, 8-4, in the first round of the playoffs on Wednesday at Padres 4 at the Peoria Sports Complex.
Matthew Bardowell and Cody Johnson led the way for GBG, combining for four hits and five RBI. Johnson's two hits would both be for extra bases.
The scoring started early, as CBA's Jude Littrell hit his first of two RBI-triples to drive in the first run of the game, giving his team the lead.
The lead would be short-lived for CBA after Bardowell singled to drive in Jordan Andrade and Daniel Garcia for GBG.
After Hunter Haas tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the third, CBA would regain the lead in the fourth on another sacrifice fly by Austin Schroeder. Littrell then singled to drive in Jake Vogel, putting them up by two.
That would be the last of the scoring for CBA, as the GBG offense piled on six unanswered runs over the next three innings, highlighted by some beautiful fundamental hitting throughout the lineup.
Earning the win for GBG was starter Tucker Juline. Juline tossed 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits. He struck out three and didn't walk a single CBA hitter.
Paredes pitched well in the loss for CBA, allowing only four earned runs over 4.1 innings. He struck out four and walked two.
GBG I. E. 2020 will play in the Sweet 16 this afternoon against the 1-seed, Gunderson Baseball.
