Team USA's Wednesday Matchup With Puerto Rico Postponed

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – The USA Baseball Professional National Team's Wednesday evening game against Puerto Rico at the 2021 World Baseball Softball Confederation Baseball Americas Qualification Event (AOQ) for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad Tokyo 2020 has been postponed due to inclement weather.

Instead, the game has been rescheduled for 11 a.m. ET Thursday (June 3) at Clover Park.

With victories in each of its first two games in Florida, Team USA secured its berth in the AOQ's Super Round, which will begin Friday and determine the first of the final two qualifiers for the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games.

The United States has two chances to qualify for Tokyo 2020, beginning with the Baseball Americas Qualifier. In order to qualify for the Olympic Games at the AOQ, the U.S. will need to win the tournament. If the stars and stripes do not qualify for the Olympics out of the Baseball Americas Qualifier, but finish second or third, they will participate in the Final Qualifier that will take place in Puebla, Mexico from June 22-27.

The U.S. has participated at the Olympic Games in 1988 (demonstration sport), 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2008, winning a gold medal in Seoul 1988 and Sydney 2000. The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games will mark the first time baseball has been featured in the Games since 2008 in Beijing, where Team USA won the bronze medal.
