
CARY, N.C. - Total Baseball Dirty South Bats used a double and an error in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure a walk-off win over Traction Canes, 4-3, on the second day of the 2019 11U Futures Invitational at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, North Carolina.
Diego Velazquez earned the win on the mound for Total Baseball Dirty South Bats (2-0) after holding the Traction Canes' offense scoreless in his 1.1 innings of relief. Total Baseball Dirty South Bats' starting pitcher, Alex Valencia, gave up three runs in his 5.2 innings of work in a no-decision. Denton Hester started on the mound for the Traction Canes (0-2), allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings. Luke Averett suffered the loss for the Traction Canes.
Tyler Young led Total Baseball Dirty South Bats at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and two singles and scoring three runs, while Diego Velazquez and Julian Weiss contributed two hits apiece. William Nikolaus and Myles Ledoux both went 2-for-3 with a run scored to pace Traction Canes.
Key Moments:
- The Traction Canes took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first after William Nikolaus scored on an error and William Power hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Myles LeDoux.
- Tyler Young hit a one-out single and later scored on a Diego Velazquez triple to get Total Baseball Dirty South Bats on the board and cut the deficit to one in the top of the third inning.
- Zachary Lopez led off the fourth inning with a walk for the Total Baseball Dirty South Bats and advanced to third thanks to a stolen base and a deep fly out to right field. Lopez would cross the plate courtesy of a Matthew Manzo RBI-fielder's choice to tie the game at 2-2.
- With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Alex Valencia's sacrifice fly to left field scored Young and gave Total Baseball Dirty South Bats its first lead of the game, 3-2.
- Parker Jewell tied the game at three for Traction Canes thanks to a bases-loaded RBI-walk in the top of the sixth inning, scoring Lucas Lawrence
- With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Tyler Young picked up his third hit of the day with a double to left and scored the game-winning run on the very next pitch thanks to an error by the Traction Canes left fielder.
