CARY, N.C. - In the first semifinal of the 2018 10U Futures Invitational, the Victory Braves shut out Wilson Sandlot 7-0 to secure a spot in Sunday's championship game at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, North Carolina.
The Braves squad got off to a fast start in the contest, jumping out to a 3-run lead in the bottom of the first and never looking back.
Tyler Young scored the game's first run on an error before a Jayden Liu RBI groundout and a base knock from Diego Velasquez brought two more across for the 3-0 advantage.
That score would hold until the bottom of the third when the Victory Braves piled on three more runs to double their lead.
Back-to-back singles got the inning started and put two on with no outs for Velasquez. The shortstop smoked a ball to deep right field for a 2-RBI triple and Lincoln Hamm added one more with a RBI groundout to give the Braves a 6-0 lead.
The team added one more in the bottom of the fourth for the final score of 7-0. Daniel Reyes got the start on the bump for the Victory Braves and turned in a stellar complete game shutout performance, giving up just three hits.
In the victory, Tyler Young and Velasquez led the Victory Braves offense. Young finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while Velasquez collected two hits, three RBI and a run scored.
Wilson Sandlot starter, Modesto Lopez, also went the distance on the mound and Maddux Barreras, Jose Bingochea and Jaden Engels all tallied hits in the loss.
The Victory Braves will match up against the winner of Saturday's second semifinal game between Canes Baseball and ATP National in the 10U Futures Invitational gold medal game. First pitch will be at 11 a.m. ET on Sunday at Thomas Brooks Park Field 7. Wilson Sandlot will play at 8:15 a.m. against the loser of the second semifinal matchup.
