GOODYEAR, Ariz - GBG Marucci Navy pounded out 15 hits, including two doubles and seven RBI, to claim victory over OC Premier Navy, 9-2, on Monday morning at the Goodyear Sports Complex in Goodyear, Arizona.
Eight different GBG athletes tallied at least one hit and four had multi-hit games. Kaden Tsuji (2-for-3), Nolan Ornelas (2-for-4) and Isaac Pacheco (2-for-4) all had two-hit games and Vincent Temesvary led the team, going 3-for-4 with two singles, a double, and three RBI on the day.
The GBG offense was ready to go for its 7:15 a.m. (PT) start time, scoring three runs in the top of the first. Marco Ibarra hit a leadoff single to left and scored when Pacheco knocked a single into right field. Orenlas reached on an error and scored along with Pacheco on Temesvary's first RBI of the day.
OC Premier responded in the bottom of the second. A wild pitch allowed Ryann Stock to score after a fielder's choice put him on base. With runners in scoring position, Premier looked to add a few more runs, but the GBG defense was able to hold them off and prevent a big inning.
GBG's lead continued to grow, with the team scoring a run in the third and two in both the fourth and fifth innings. Its final run came on another RBI single by Temesvary that scored Ornelas. In the field, the GBG pitching staff, with a strong defense behind them, scattered three hits and struck out six on its way to a win.
Premier made one more scoring effort in the bottom of the sixth when a walk put Alonzo Fuller on base and a single moved him to third. Fuller scored on an RBI off the bat of Lucas Garcia. Fuller, Daniel Lee and Andy Park all saw time on the mound for Premier. They each tossed a strikeout and only combined for three walks in the game.
With the win, GBG Marucci Navy advanced to the playoff bracket and will take on PBA at 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday at Mariners 6 in the Peoria Sports Complex.
