2022 12U National Team Trials Roster Finalized

Twenty-four athletes named to roster following 2022 11U Futures Invitational

CARY, N.C. – USA Baseball today finalized the 36-man roster for the 2022 12U National Team Trials with the addition of 24 players following the 2022 11U USA Baseball Futures Invitational. The selected players will join 12 previously identified athletes who were named to the Trials roster from last year’s 11U National Team Identification Series (NTIS) Champions Cup.

12U National Team Trials will include four days of intrasquad games, Prospect Development Pipeline (PDP) performance assessments, on-field workouts, and more. The roster will also be split into two teams for a four-game “Red vs. Blue” series, allowing the coaching staff to evaluate players in competitive gameplay. The final 18-man national team roster will be announced at the conclusion of Trials on July 1.

“We are very excited to continue this process and finalize our 36-man trials roster,” said Will Schworer, USA Baseball’s 12U National Team Director. “Our coaching staff has identified thirty-six of the nation’s best young players, and we are looking forward to watching these athletes compete at Trials before we name our final roster that will compete in the U-12 Baseball World Cup.”

The final 12U National Team roster will move on to compete at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-12 Baseball World Cup in Tainan, Taiwan, from July 29-August 7. Team USA will look to capture its world-best fourth gold medal in 2022 after winning three consecutive titles in 2013, 2015, and 2017.

The 12U National Team Trials roster features players from 11 different states. California leads the way with 14 athletes on the Trials roster, and Texas follows with seven representatives.

The 12U National Team will be led by second-year manager RJ Farrell, who will be making his international managerial debut in 2022. Farrell guided Team USA to a 3-0 record in exhibition play in 2021 as the stars and stripes outscored their opponents, 55-3. Farrell, who has helped guide Team USA to two gold medals as an assistant coach with the 12U National Team, will be joined on staff by pitching coach Seth Kenny and assistant coaches Troy Gerlach and Tanner Vesely. Kenny made his national team coaching debut with the 12U National Team in 2021, while Gerlach won a gold medal with the 2018 15U National Team and Vesely has helped guide Team USA to four gold medals as both a manager and assistant coach.
