2022 PDP League Roster

CARY, N.C. – Major League Baseball and USA Baseball jointly announced today the 100 players participating in the 2022 PDP League that will take place June 29–July 6 at the National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. Part of the broader MLB and USA Baseball Prospect Development Pipeline (PDP), the event features the country’s best 18-and-under players and serves as the primary identification event for the 18U National Team. Many players in the PDP League also will compete in the MLB-USA Baseball High School All-American Game held at Dodger Stadium during MLB All-Star Week.

The PDP League is an invitation-based development and assessment opportunity for high school players eligible for the following year’s MLB Draft. Since its inception in 2019, it provides athletes with an extraordinary amateur experience, including competitive gameplay, player development sessions, educational seminars, and other programming to prepare players for a professional baseball career.

‘We are excited to welcome so many talented players to the National Training Complex this summer to kickstart the 18U National Team identification process,” said USA Baseball 18U National Team General Manager Ashley Bratcher. “We are looking forward to a great week of competitive play and identifying the forty young men who will be named to our 18U National Team Trials roster and compete for the chance to represent our country at the U-18 Baseball World Cup in Florida in September.”

The 100 participants will be split into four teams of 25 and go head-to-head in a series of intrasquad games. The rosters include 10 USA Baseball national team alumni and 25 past National Team Development Program (NTDP) participants and feature athletes from 28 different states, as well as Puerto Rico. California leads the way with 19 players, Florida boasts 17 to have the second-most players on the roster, Texas claims nine, Georgia has seven, and Illinois has six.

Drew Burress (Perry, Ga.), Duke Ekstrom (San Diego, Calif.), Ethan McElvain (Thompsons Station, Tenn.), Steven Milam (Las Cruces, N.M.), and Aidan Miller (Trinity, Fla.) will all reunite at the PDP League after playing together on the 2019 15U National Team that won gold at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-15 Baseball World Cup Americas Qualifier.

Several other players have prior national team or NTDP experience, as George Wolkow (Downers Grove, Ill.) was a member of the 2021 15U National Team while Colt Emerson (Cambridge, Ohio), Gavin Grahovac (Orange, Calif.), Milam, and Miller have all played on medal-winning 12U National Teams in 2016 and 2017. Additionally, Walker Jenkins (Oak Island, N.C.) and Blake Mitchell (Sinton, Texas) will look to make an 18U National Team roster for the second consecutive year after donning the red, white, and blue last summer.

PDP League participants also include more than a dozen alumni of premier, diversity-focused development programs led by MLB and USA Baseball, including the Breakthrough Series (BTS) and DREAM Series (DS). The list, which also includes alumni of the Hank Aaron Invitational (HAI: co-hosted by MLB, the MLBPA and USA Baseball), is as follows:

  • Antonio Anderson – 2021 Hank Aaron Invitational (HAI), 2021 Breakthrough Series (BTS) Tournament Team, 2022 BTS

After the PDP League, 40 players will be invited to the 18U National Team Trials from August 29-September 2 in Fort Myers, Florida, before the 20-man 18U National Team roster is named. The 18U team will continue to train in Fort Myers from September 4-8 before competing at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup from September 9-18 in Bradenton and Sarasota, Florida. The United States will host the event for the first time since 1995 when Team USA finished the tournament with an 8-1 record and claimed the gold medal with a 10-0 victory over Chinese Taipei in the championship game at Fenway Park in Boston.
