2026 Breakthrough Series: By the Numbers

Top PDP testing scores at MLB and USA Baseball’s joint initiative

VERO BEACH – The 2026 Breakthrough Series recently wrapped up at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Florida. The Breakthrough Series, established in 2008, is a joint effort on behalf of USA Baseball and Major League Baseball (MLB). This unique program focuses on developing the player on and off the field through workouts, intrasquad scrimmages, seminars and mentorship, and the highest level of instruction while providing a platform for the players to perform for scouts and collegiate coaches. The Breakthrough Series events allow for consistent growth opportunities both in competitive and non-competitive settings and will aid in the continued advancement of their life and baseball skills.

As part of the event, athletes were evaluated in various statistical categories, including the Prospect Development Pipeline (PDP) Performance Assessment and Rapsodo data collected from three days of batting practice. Read more on how the top athletes in the nation stacked up with one another and see who topped the leaderboard in statistical categories and performance assessment athletic tests.

PDP Performance Assessment

As part of the development event, players participate in the PDP Performance Assessment. The assessments consist of a series of comprehensive evaluations that utilize state-of-the-art technology to measure cognitive skills, speed of processing, athletic performance, and on-field talent. Tests include the 30-yard dash, broad jump, grip strength, and countermovement jump height and peak power output.

All data collected from the assessments is disseminated to the 30 MLB Clubs in preparation for the MLB Draft and to USA Baseball for national team identification.

Standout Performances

Jordin Griffin stood out above the rest after participating in testing on Saturday afternoon at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex. In four assessments, Griffin finished in the top five including a first-place finish in the countermovement jump height (23 inches).

There was a balanced mix of high school juniors and seniors, with seniors taking the top spot in four of the five listed PDP Performance Assessments. The lone junior who earned a first-place finish was Eaden Pullen, who recorded a 10-foot-8-inch broad jump. At six-foot-three-inches, Pullen was one of three players to record a broad jump further than 10 ½ feet.

Four players recorded 3.60-second 30-yard sprint times, including Bryson Bourn, Isaiah Cador, Jordin Griffin, and Mikey Watson. These players ran considerably faster than the top performers at last year’s Breakthrough Series, where the fastest runner notched a 3.60-second 30-yard sprint.

The field of top performers included a diverse group of athletes, as 18 unique players ranked in the top five among all 26 scores listed. Among those 18 athletes, only four reside in the U.S. further west than Illinois, with three players hailing from California while Adrian Norris – who ranked first in the countermovement jump peak power output – is from Omaha, Nebraska.
