
PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla.- A big sixth inning for Cannons Baseball seemed to be the difference in today's Game of the Day matchup against Florida Canes resulting in a 9-3 win.
The Canes struck first with a two-run first frame. A trio of one-out singles and a ground-out RBI plated two making the score 2-0.
Cannons Baseball would take the lead scoring four in the bottom of the second. Two walks and a triple by Brandon Gonsalves scored the first run while the next batter, Matthew Kautz hit a shot over the second basemen and advanced to second to even the game up at two. A single then scored two runs to take the 4-2 lead.
In the third, the Cannons added their fifth run to the board. A walk put Erik Blair on, and single by Deven Schlagter brought Blair home from first.
After a scoreless fourth inning from both sides, The Cannons plated one run on a solo lead-off homerun from Giovanny Adames that soared over the right field fence.
The sixth frame brought another run across for the Canes to bring the deficit to three. After a lead-off walk and a stolen base by Jake Randolph, a single followed by a sacrifice fly scored one to bring the score to 6-3.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Cannons added three more insurance runs. A double scored the first runner who reached on a walk, and a pair of singles would bring home two more runs. With a runner on third, a sacrifice fly plated the ninth and final run of the game for the home team.
Adames led the offense for the Cannons going two-for-three with four runs batted in and zero strikeouts. Gonsalves and Kautz also had multi-hit games combining for two runs batted in between the pair. For the Canes, Ryan Srigley was 2-for-3 with zero strikeouts.
Santiago Ordonez earned the win hurling three innings allowing one hit, zero runs and four strikeouts. Ormarion Davis was given the loss, allowing five runs on five hits while tossing four innings.
With the win, the Cannons move to 2-0 on the tournament and will turn around to take on Team Freedom tomorrow at 8 am E.T.
