Arizona State’s Landon Hairston Named Golden Spikes Player of the Week

CARY, N.C. – Arizona State’s Landon Hairston put together a solid performance at the plate across four games last week en route to being named USA Baseball’s Golden Spikes Award x D1 Baseball Week 7 Player of the Week.

Hairston hit .563 in last week’s slate of games for the Sun Devils, tallying nine hits, 12 RBIs, five home runs, and nine runs scored.

In ASU’s midweek game against New Mexico State on March 25, he went 2-for-3 with his 11th home run of the season, scoring three runs after reaching base a combined five times. On March 27 in its series opener against West Virginia, he turned in a 3-for-4 performance with eight RBIs and two home runs, including a grand slam to lead the nation in the category and tie the program’s school record. In game two of the series, he tallied a double and a homer, and in the series finale he homered for the fourth consecutive game as he went 2-for-4 on the day.

Hairston is in the midst of a breakout season for the Sun Devils, ranking second in the nation in hits (44), fourth in total bases (88) and slugging percentage (.917), fifth in batting average (.458), sixth in runs scored (36), 13th in home runs (11), and 18th in on-base percentage (.543). Additionally, he is on an 11-game hit streak and in his last 55 games he has tallied 43 extra-base hits.
