SURPRISE, Ariz.- In a one-sided offensive affair, Canyon Thunder topped San Diego Show, 12-1, at Rangers 5 at Surprise Recreation Campus on Sunday.
A seven-run second inning helped put the Thunder in the driver's seat, lead by Ragan, who had a walk and a two-run single in the frame.
After shutting down the Show offense to being the contest, Thunder crossed five runs in the bottom of the first. Berry doubled for the team's first baserunner and came around to score on a Duffalo single. He eventually scored on a passed ball before Frees hit a two-run triple to cap the four-run inning.
Show strung together some offense with back-to-back singles to open the second, but the second single led to Jordan Waller being thrown out trying to advance to third. A hit-by-pitch and a walk loaded the bases before Mark Cervantes drove in the only Show run on a single. A fly out and a ground out would strand the bases loaded.
Six walks in the bottom of the second helped the Thunder plate seven runs. Verdusco, Jimenez and Ragan all added RBI singles to build the lead to 10 before the third inning.
A sacrifice fly by Click added the 12th and final run for Thunder in the third inning, scoring Verdusco from third after a walk to leadoff the frame.
Save for a deep double from Jackson Skellett in the fourth, Show went quietly to end the game with the run rule being enforced.
Figueroa pitched well for the Thunder in the start. He tossed all 4.0 innings, allowing just four hits and the one earned run. He struck out one and walked one in the win.
Both squads sit at 1-1 after the doubleheader. They will play at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow looking to head into Tuesday's re-seeded game with a winning record.
