So Cal Birds White 5, CCB Prime 0
So Cal Birds White put on a dominant performance in their quarterfinal showdown with CCB Prime. So Cal Birds not only shutout CCB Prime, they one-hit their opponents to move on to the semifinals.
So Cal Birds White didn’t have a bad day on offense either — they tallied 13 hits in their 5-0 win over Prime, and four So Cal players recorded a multi-hit game. _ Ryan Luce ripped a leadoff double to start So Cal’s day while Dalton Chi, who finished his 3-for-3 day with three RBIs, followed it up with a double of his own that put them on the board. One run later, So Cal had taken a two-run, first-inning lead and never looked back.
The Birds put up one run each in the third, fourth, and fifth frames. However, it was its pitching that shined in the quarterfinals. So Cal used two arms — Camden Goetz and Drake Brito — to get the job done. While Goetz pitched the first three frames, Brito closed out the last four. Combined, they threw seven strikeouts, only gave up three walks, and yielded just one hit while letting their defense work behind them.
EJ Sports Warriors 8, South Texas Sliders 17U Mayer 4
EJ Sports Warriors downed the South Texas Sliders 8-4 in the quarterfinals in Surprise. Even though the Sliders struck first by taking advantage of free passes and errors, EJ Sports plated six between the third and fourth innings — enough to move one step closer to a potential gold medal.
Starting pitcher Mason Ravera captained the mound for all but one out of the quarterfinal contest. Ravera had no earned runs to his name, giving up just four hits and four walks while flaming five strikeouts. Dean Collins recorded the final out for EJ, sealing their spot in the semifinals.
Five different players recorded an RBI for the Warriors, who built up an 8-1 lead by the middle of the sixth frame. While the Sliders tried to battle back by scoring three between the sixth and seventh, EJ Sports Warriors’ lead was too large to overcome.
Trosky/Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team 10, MVP Hustle 5
Like EJ Sports Warriors, Trosky/Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team simply outscored its opponents, beating MVP Hustle 10-5 after scoring in all but one of its six innings of play. While MVP put up four runs in the fourth frame, Trosky kept them off the board nearly everywhere else and powered its way to the semis.
Seven Trosky batters slugged their way to an RBI in the bout, and every single one tallied a hit as they contributed to a total of 18 on the day. Additionally, seven batters recorded multi-hit games and the team earned four total extra base hits, causing fits for MVP Hustle’s pitching staff. Third baseman Xavier Neyens hit both a double and a triple in his 2-for-3, one-RBI day.
Even though MVP put up a four-run fourth, Trosky/Milwaukee’s consistent and relentless offense could not be stopped as it punched its ticket to the next round.
CBA Victus San Diego 4, Diablo Valley Oaks 3
CBA Victus San Diego found itself down 3-1 to the Diablo Valley Oaks late in the sixth inning. Needing a hero to save it from elimination and secure a spot in the semifinals, designated hitter Parker Vance stepped up to the plate and didn’t disappoint.
As soon as the Oaks sent in their closing pitcher, Vance struck with an ambush, crushing a go-ahead, three-run homer over the left field fence. The designated hitter’s bomb made it 4-3, a lead that CBA hung onto as its closer, Kelle Leuck, sealed Diablo Valley’s last-second loss.
Long before Vance’s long ball, the Oaks scored three runs of their own to take a 3-0 lead in the third frame. While CBA plated one in the fourth, Vance’s heroic home run was exactly what it needed to earn a spot in the semifinals.
