KNIGHTS KNATION 10, EAST COAST SOX SCOUT 1

Knights Knation (2-2-1) exploded for a seven-run fifth inning to run-rule East Coast Sox (2-3) and win 10-1 at the 17U National Team Championships in North Carolina.

Knights Knation took an early 2-0 advantage thanks to Hayden Federico’s two-RBI shot to right, driving in Brant Melancon, who reached on a single, and Ethan Surowiec, who took first on a fielding error by the third baseman. With two outs in the fourth, East Coast Sox’s Tanner Waldrop torched a ball down the left field line to land on second. Waldrop was brought home the following at-bat after Eli Stephens punched a ball into right to cut the deficit in half. An error committed by the pitcher in the home half of the fourth allowed Zach White who led off the inning with a line drive single to come around and score, tacking on one more run to make it 3-1.

A leadoff walk in the bottom of the fifth came back to bite, as a stolen bag and a throwing error by the catcher advanced Surowiec to third. Trey Hawsey’s infield single brought Surowiec in to score for the Knights’ fourth run of the ball game. Knights Knation broke things open thereafter, as a single by Sam Erickson followed by a fielder’s choice that saw all runners safe loaded the bases. A bases-loaded walk drawn by White gave Knights Knation its fifth run, and was further added on to by Cooper Winchester’s flare to left, manufacturing another run. A throwing error by the center fielder on the same play brought in Federico to score and widen the lead to make it 7-1. Another bases-loaded walk was responsible for Knights Knation’s eighth run, and then a Surowiec double brought in Winchester and Dylan Bell to produce two more runs and conclude the contest with a score of 10-1.

William Schmidt had a strong outing for Knights Knation, collecting four strikeouts in four innings pitched and allowing only one run to score. Federico and Surowiec both amassed two runs batted in on one hit, with Fedrico scoring once and Surowiec crossing the plate twice for their team. Jackson Kohr also had a solid showing on the bump, pitching three innings of three-hit ball with no earned runs for the East Coast Sox. Waldrop went 2-for-2, compiling two doubles and driving in East Coast Sox’s only run of the game.

3n2 STICKS BASEBALL 17U BREWSTER/WHITE SOX SCOUT TEAM 3, TOP TIER SELECT 3

Middle-inning scoring was not enough for either team, as the 3n2 Sticks Baseball (1-3-1) and Top Tier Select (1-3-1) matchup ended in a 3-3 draw at the 17U Championships in North Carolina.

Scoring did not commence until the bottom of the third when Cameron Uzzillia’s deep two-RBI double banged against the right field wall and brought home leadoff man Andrew Tess along with Tomas Valincius. Nate George hit one through the left side the following at-bat, scoring Uzzillia and sending him back to the dugout.

3n2 Sticks answered with two of its own the next inning. After Landon Schaefer’s leadoff walk and a single by Owen Coil put two on, Bo Jonas ripped a ball deep to left field to clear the bases and make it 3-2. 3n2 Sticks evened the game at 3-3 in the fifth after a bases-loaded walk brought home Cameron Carter, who reached base on a four pitch walk. Top Tier limited the damage after forcing two consecutive flyouts, and then a failure to tag by the runner on third resulted in the third out.

Jonas went 1-for-3 and delivered a clutch piece of two-out hitting, driving in two of 3n2 Sticks’ three runs. Coil finished the day going 2-for-3, scoring one run for his squad in the process. Uzzillia was also 2-for-3, acquiring a single in addition to a double that plated two runs as well as coming across home to score a run.
