PEORIA, Ariz.- In an offensively dominated game, GBG I. E. topped TB SoCal Gorillas, 11-3, at Padres 4 at the Peoria Sports Complex on Wedneday.
Isaac Rodriguez led the way for GBG, going 2-for-2 with a pair of singles. Rodriguez drove in two and also scored two runs.
Gorillas jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first after Quinn Roeloefs punched an RBI-double to left field, scoring SoCal's Stevensons following his leadoff single.
GBG did not hesitate to answer, plating three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Elijah Rodriguez opened with a triple and scored on a Kaden Moeller single to center. A ground out and a single allowed the next two runs to score, putting GBG on top early.
After Gorillas added a second run in the next inning, GBG padded their lead with another three-spot. Johnnie Valdez, Jr. singled to drive in the first run. Moeller then added his second RBI on a sacrifice fly, scoring Rodriguez from third. Isaac Rodriguez capped the scoring with another single, sending Christopher Ramirez home.
Two scoreless innings held the lead before Gorillas would add one more in the top of the fifth on another Roeloefs hit, this time a single.
A flurry of hits propelled GBG to an insurmountable lead before Rodriguez ended the game, forcing the run rule after an RBI-single crossed the 11th and final run.
Henry Jauregui earned the win, pitching 4.0 innings in the start. He allowed just one earned run on three hits and five strikeouts. He walked six.
With the win, GBG advances to Thursday's Quarterfinals with a 6-0 record, while Gorillas will play one more game in a consolation.
