Day one of the 13U Champs NC had an action-packed 12 game slate delivering great games

It's the start of another Champs NC at the National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina - this time at the 13U level. A jam-packed day saw 12 games played, with all of them having a different story to tell. The dog days of summer are here, and this is only the beginning of a competitive week of Champs NC.

SBA Bolts National 13U 3, Kangaroo Court Roos American 1

SBA Bolts National used an early 1-0 lead and were able to hold the lead all the way to the finish line. Kangaroo Court Roos American tied the game in the fourth off an RBI single by Jaidyn Tartt. Then, a walk and a sac-fly drove in two more runs in the bottom of the fourth for SBA Bolts National and they held strong till the end of the game, earning a 3-1 win.

Indiana Bulls Black 13U 3, Wildcatters Baseball 13U Elite 2

In a tight contest, Indiana Bulls Black 13U took the lead in the top of the sixth and held it down in the bottom half to earn the win. Indiana Bulls Black scored all three runs on RBI singles from Noah Blackburn, Ian Hileman, and Miles Handy. Jimmy Canada was called on to close out the game for Indiana Bulls Black 13U and executed, earning a 3-2 win.

FTB Phillies 13U 2, STIX 2031 Prospects 1

FTB came out swinging in their first game of the tournament, racking up seven hits in the contest. STIX 2031 Prospects took an early 1-0 lead off an RBI groundout from Cameron Brown in the second frame. The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth, when FTB Phillies 13U drove in both their runs on a two-RBI single by Hudson Roland. Weston Rayburn was summoned out of the pen in the fifth and pitched two scoreless frames, securing the win for FTB Phillies 13U.

PRD 13U 6, Canes Nation 13U 6

The highest-scoring affair of the morning saw a combined 12 runs and 16 hits that ended in a tie between PRD and Canes Nation. PRD held a commanding 6-2 lead through three innings until Canes Nation came to life in the bottom of the fourth. Scoring four runs using a single, a sac-fly, and a two-RBI double by Brenner Brown, Canes Nation tied the game at six in the fourth, and the score remained knotted till the end of the game.

Wildcatters Baseball 13U Elite 4, Kangaroo Court Roos American 2

In an offensive explosion, Wildcatters Baseball 13U Elite cruised to victory, notching 11 hits and drawing five walks. Liam Patrick, Mylo Leyja, and Hector Brito all recorded multi-hit games for Wildcatters Baseball 13U Elite on their way to victory. In a game shortened by mercy rule, the Wildcatters Baseball 13U Elite held the Kangaroos Court Roos American to three hits and two runs in a four-inning win.

SBA Bolts National 13U 16, Indiana Bulls Black 13U 6

A slugfest of a matchup saw a combined 25 hits and 22 runs scored between the two teams in a 16-6 victory for SBA Bolts National. Ryan Spann had a great day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs, including an RBI triple. An eight-run fourth inning saw SBA Bolts National run away with the contest, although Indiana Bulls Black 13U drew across two runs in the bottom of the fourth, no more runs would score, ending the game 16-6.

Canes Nation 13U 8, STIX 2031 Prospects 7

Canes Nation 13U jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but everything wouldn’t be so easy in a tightly contested game. STIX 2031 Prospects fought back, putting up a four-run second inning that was highlighted by two-RBI singles. Canes Nation 13U found RBI triples in the fifth and sixth frames to run away with the win.

FTB Phillies 13U National 7, PRD 1

A strong pitching performance from the FTB Phillies 13U staff saw five innings of three-hit baseball, only surrendering one earned run. Using six hits, FTB Phillies 13U used a seven-run fourth inning, highlighted by an RBI-triple by Aiden Ha. Ha then went on to close out the game for FTB Phillies 13U, going 1.1 scoreless innings with one strikeout, giving FTB Phillies 13U a commanding win.

USA Prime National 13U 8, Top Tier Select 0

USA Prime National 13U used a massive bottom of the fifth to take an 8-0 win via mercy rule. Dominating on the mound as well as in the box, USA Prime National 13U got a combined effort of three-hit, shutout baseball from their staff. Up 3-0 going into the fifth, USA Prime National used three RBI singles to plate five runs to get the mercy rule victory.

South Charlotte Panthers 2031 Marucci 4, Scottsdale Dirtbags 3

With only one run being scored in the first five frames, the Scottsdale Dirtbags and South Charlotte Panthers closed out a thriller, scoring six runs in the final two innings. Starting pitchers Nolyn Gibson and Chad Mortensen both went five innings apiece, both giving up two runs. William Johnson came to the plate at the top of the seventh for the South Charlotte Panthers and smacked a two-RBI single to take the lead. Scottsdale Dirtbags were able to scratch across one run in the bottom half, which wasn’t enough, giving the South Charlotte Panthers a 4-3 win.

ZT National Prospects 13U 10, Cubs Scout Team 13U 1

ZT National Prospects 13U used 12 hits in an impressive offensive performance, scoring 10 runs to pick up a win. Three separate ZT National Prospects players recorded multi-RBI performances, solidifying the depth of their lineup. The pitching staff dominated the game, going six innings of one-run baseball and notching eight strikeouts as a staff. Scoring seven runs across the last three frames, ZT National Prospects had complete control late in the game, earning the 10-1 victory.

Canes Midwest National 3, Team Elite 2

In a low-scoring contest, Canes Midwest National took the lead in the fourth and held it to the end. Going into the bottom of the third tied 2-1, Canes Midwest National got a huge at-bat from Fielder Grebert, recording a two-RBI single to center field, giving Canes Midwest National a 3-2 lead. A combined statline of seven innings pitched, five hits, two runs, and seven strikeouts saw the Canes Midwest National staff lock down the game and get the win.
