CARY, N.C. – Team Stars bounced back and cruised past Team Stripes, 14-6, thanks to big performances from Paxton Scoggin and Jason Spray Jr. at 15U National Team Training Camp Phase 2 on Thursday evening at the National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. Stars scored 11 unanswered runs in the middle innings to ultimately pull through and even the Stars vs. Stripes series at a game apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Stripes struck first after a wild pitch allowed Matti Di Maggio, who reached on a walk, to score.
- Ray Hunter led off the bottom of the first, subsequently coming around to score two at-bats later after a sacrifice fly via Scoggin. A wild pitch later that inning would put Stars ahead, 2-1.
- Team Stripes responded in the second and loaded the bases after a single, walk, and hit-by-pitch. An error allowed Jonah Hargrave to tie the game, while an RBI groundout from Greyson Wuis handed Stripes a 3-2 lead.
- After Bryant Ju drew a leadoff walk in the home half of the third, Hunter drilled a full-count offering down the right field line for an RBI double, tying the game at 3-3.
- Just two batters later, Scoggin would hand Stars the lead with a two-RBI triple sent to deep right field. Tyler Early tacked on one more run with an RBI single, making it 6-3 after three.
- Ju extended Stars’ lead in the fourth, singling on a fly ball to left for an RBI. A pair of wild pitches later in the inning scored Kolt Hampton and Brandon Sweeney to make it 9-3.
- Stars continued to pull away in the fifth, as a walk followed by a bases-clearing triple from Spray Jr. handed Stars a 13-3 advantage.
- Paris Head cut into the lead in the sixth with an RBI double to make it 13-4.
