CARY, N.C. – On the strength of late-inning rallies by both teams, Team Gray and Team Navy played to a 3-3 tie on Monday afternoon during the third day of the 2021 PDP League at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.

After Team Gray took a 3-2 lead on Korbyn Dickerson’s two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the sixth, Team Navy tied the game in the top of the sixth on a fielding error before Thomas Finnegan tossed a perfect bottom of the seventh to secure the tie.

Dickerson (1-for-1), Jayson Jones (1-for-1), Drew Nelson (1-for-1), Cole Stanfield, (1-for-2), and Mason Swinney (2-for-2) all had hits for Team Gray. Stanfield drove in the team’s only other run in the bottom of the first. Team Gray got strong pitching performances, including Cade Fisher’s two hitless innings.

Justin Crawford (1-for-3), Jayden Hilton (1-for-2), Druw Jones (1-for-2), Riley Stanford (1-for-2), and Alex Stanwich (1-for-3) picked up hits for Team Navy. Carsten Sabathia hit a hard ground ball to third base in the top of the seventh that resulted in an error and tied the game for Team Navy. On the mound, Jake Clemente threw two hitless frames and Finnegan added a strikeout in his one inning of work.

Key Moments

• Team Gray cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the first on a two-out RBI single by Stanfield, plating Ethan Petry.
• After Stanford and Jones singled in the top of the second, Hilton drove them both in with a two-out, two-run single to give Team Navy a 2-1 lead.
• Team Gray put a runner on base in both the third and fourth innings, but Jake Clemente kept them scoreless in both frames to maintain a 2-1 lead.
• With two outs and two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the sixth, Dickerson hit a two-run double down the right field line to put Team Gray in front, 3-2. Gavin Turley and Jones scored on the play.
• Down to its final out with Sabathia at the plate, Team Navy scored on a fielding error to tie the game in the seventh.
• Finnegan shut down the Team Gray offense in the bottom of the seventh to force the tie.
