DURHAM, N.C. – Josh Springer hit a walk-off single to lift the Stripes past the Stars, 10-9, in the second game of the 2021 15U National Team Trials series on Sunday afternoon at Durham Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina.

The walk-off capped a come-from-behind win for the Stripes, who have now won the first two games of the series. They were trailing by as many as four runs throughout the game on Sunday, but scored the game’s final five runs to win.

Springer’s walk-off knock came with runners on the corners and one out, scoring Jase DeSantis (Las Vegas, Nev.), who had reached on an error. The Stripes had 16 hits in the win.

Carson Page (Hahira, Ga.) led the Stripes’ offense for the second straight game, going 4-for-4 in the win. Henry Allen (Auburn, Ala.), Ethan Puig (Miami, Fla.), and Braeden Weckman (Winter Springs, Fla.) all had two hits. Konnor Griffin (Florence, Miss.) and Coy James (Advance, N.C.) both had multi-hit games for the Stars. George Wolkow (Downers Grove, Ill.) added a team-best two RBIs.

Zach Strickland (Arcadia, Calif.), who tossed three innings for the Stripes, earned the win. Samuel Cozart (High Point, N.C) got the loss for the Stars.

  • Griffin and Miller both reached base in the top of the fifth and came around to score to extend the Stars’ lead to 9-5.
  • A three-run fifth helped the Stripes get back into the game. Xavier Neyens (Mount Vernon, Wash.) singled up the middle to drive in a run before Allen added an RBI-single of his own and Puig drove in another run with a single to give the Stars a 9-8 lead.
