
On the final day of Phase 1 at USA Baseball’s 18U National Team Training Camp, teams closed out the week with competitive matchups under the North Carolina sun.
Game One Final Score:
Team Light Blue 5, Team Grey 2
AS IT HAPPENED:
- Team Grey opened the scoring in the 3rd inning when Jet Berry reached third base and came home on a groundout to shortstop by Brody Schumaker, putting Grey ahead by one early.
- In the fifth inning, Team Light Blue responded in a big way. Cristian Serrano crossed the plate on an RBI single to second base by Yodelkis Quevedo to tie the game at 1-1.
- Moments later, Landon Thome scored on a sacrifice fly to center from Logan Corley, and Quevedo advanced to third as Team Light Blue took its first lead of the game.
- Quevedo then scored on a wild pitch, giving Light Blue a 3-1 lead in the fifth.
- In the bottom half of the inning, Grey answered back. Berry scored again—this time on a fielding error by the first baseman, cutting the deficit to one run.
- Light Blue tacked on another run in the sixth when Andrew Costello brought home Cole Prosek with a sacrifice fly to left field to take a 4-2 lead.
- In the 8th inning, with two outs and a runner in scoring position, Anthony Murphy delivered a clutch RBI single up the middle, plating Taytum Reeves to add insurance for Team Light Blue.
Game Two Final Score:
Team Navy 6, Team Red 2
AS IT HAPPENED:
- Second inning action began when Easton Autrey doubled down the left field line, giving Beau Peterson the go ahead to score.
- Team Navy didn’t take this early lead lightly, with Brady Harris singling and soon advancing to second on the throw. This sent Will Brick to third and allowed him to score on a throwing error, then allowing Aidan Ruiz to score, putting Navy ahead in the third.
- A throwing error in the bottom of the fifth allowed for CJ Sampson to advance to first, all while allowing Ruiz to notch another run on the board for Team Navy.
- Rookie Shepard’s single and advancement to second on the throw gave Trey Ebel the go ahead to score for Team Red in the bottom of the fifth.
- Starting off the sixth, Jaden Jackson advanced to third on both a fielding and throwing error, soon scoring off of a Deion Cole single to extend Team Navy’s lead to two.
- Following Cole’s single, James Clark reached base on a fielder's choice and soon advanced to second. James Tronstein also advanced to second on a fielding error, then advanced to third allowing for Cole to score.
- A Will Brick walk allowed for Keon Johnson to advance to second, Clark to third, and brought Tronstein home for Team Navy’s sixth and final run of the day.
