
CARY, N.C. – Following a stellar pitching performance on the road that featured a career-high 14 strikeouts, Florida State’s Trey Beard has been named USA Baseball’s Golden Spikes Award x D1 Baseball Week 5 Player of the Week.
Beard tossed 6.2 innings of one-hit ball, issuing just one walk, to help the then-20th ranked Seminoles shut out then-12th ranked ACC opponent Wake Forest, 2-0, on the road on March 14. He took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and did not allow a baserunner until two outs in the third. His 14 strikeouts were a career best by two and his 6.2 innings were a season high.
Beard, a Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List candidate, lowered his season ERA to 1.89 and improved to 2-0 on the mound. He played a vital role in the Seminoles' sweep over the Demon Deacons.
