FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – USA Baseball’s 2026 Collegiate National Team Training Camp opened its Stars vs. Stripes series on Tuesday evening at Segra Stadium in Fayetteville, North Carolina, as the opening game saw the Stars secure a 4-0 victory over the Stripes as five pitchers combined for the shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless opening inning, the Stars struck first in the bottom of the second. Gavin Kelly led off with a single to center field before Tague Davis belted a 386-foot, two-run home run to right field. A hit-by-pitch and an infield error put two more runners aboard before Nico Partida followed with an RBI groundout to give the Stars a 3-0 lead.
- The Stars added another run in the fourth inning. Kelly opened the frame with a double to right field, and Kolby Branch reached on a dropped third strike. As Branch attempted to steal second, the throw down allowed Kelly to cross home, extending the Stars lead to 4-0.
- The Stripes were unable to rally as J’Shawn Unger, Tanner Bradley, and Camden Sunstrom combined for eight strikeouts in relief, sealing the Stars 4-0 victory.
