CARY, N.C. – USA Baseball’s 2026 16U/17U National Team Development Program concluded Thursday at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. The final slate of games saw Team Navy earn a 5-4 victory over Team Red to remain undefeated, and Team Light Blue secure a 4-1 win over Team Grey.

NAVY 5, RED 4

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The first two-and-a-half innings went scoreless as Team Red starter Isaias Torres tossed three scoreless innings with three strikeouts, while Team Navy starter Dylan Cunningham worked two shutout innings and struck out three.
• Team Navy broke through in the bottom of the third when Landon Bonner led off with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a fly out, and scored on an RBI single by Aiden Kearney. Kearney then stole second and third before Derek Vazquez drove him in with an RBI triple to give Team Navy a 2-0 lead.
• The fourth and fifth innings remained scoreless before Team Red recorded a four-run sixth inning to take the lead. Back-to-back walks and an Anthony Frausto III single loaded the bases to open the frame, before Mark Williams Jr. delivered a two-run single to right field. With two outs, Jeremiah Hall lined a two-run double to left field, extending Team Red’s rally and giving his team a 4-2 advantage.
• Facing its final opportunity, Team Navy mounted the comeback. Jayden Stegner opened the bottom of the seventh with a single to center, before a base hit by Torres and a walk loaded the bases. August Backman drew a bases-loaded walk to trim the deficit to one, and with two outs, Isaiah Cador lined a two-run double to right field to complete the comeback and secure Team Navy’s 5-4 walk-off victory.

NOTABLE STATS

• Kearney led all batters with two hits.
• Cunningham and Torres each struck out a game-high three batters.
• Bonner recorded two runs scored, the most of all players.
• Cador and Williams Jr. both tallied a game-high two RBIs.
• Backman, Cunningham, Alexander Kakach, Braden Makley, Terry, and Torres all tossed scoreless outings.

LIGHT BLUE 4, GREY 1

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After a scoreless first inning, Team Light Blue broke the tie, plating three runs in the top of the second. Tre Lawrence led off the inning with a walk, then advanced to third on a Colton Fitzgibbon double. With runners in scoring position, Colin Anderson drew a walk to load the bases for Cannon Fralick. Fralick then knocked a hard ground ball single to center field to clear the bases and give Team Light Blue a three-run advantage.
• In the bottom frame, Team Grey got one back to cut the lead to 3-1. Jason Marll Jr. was hit by a pitch to open the frame, then stole second during Terrell Hampton-Hall’s at bat. Hampton-Hall grounded out to first, advancing Marll Jr. to third on the play. Marll Jr. then scored the lone run of the inning on a Tristin Gaines ground out.
• Both sides recorded a 1-2-3 third inning, and strong pitching held the fourth and fifth scoreless as well.
• In the top of the sixth, Cooper Holland cranked a solo homer to right field to extend the lead to 4-1, helping to eventually lead Team Light Blue to its first win of the week.

NOTABLE STATS

• On the mound, Steven Roberts, Talon Sweat, and Ayden White recorded two scoreless innings each. Mateo Mier also recorded one scoreless inning of work.
• Fralick led all hitters with three RBIs.
• Evan Ogwezi led all pitchers with four strikeouts.
