CARY, N.C. – A three-run second inning propelled Team Stripes to a 5-1 victory over Team Stars on the last day of 15U National Team Training Camp Friday afternoon at the National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. With the win, Stripes secures the Stars vs. Stripes series with a 2-1 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Stars wasted no time getting on the board, with Ray Hunter leading off the game with a single before coming around to score on heads-up baserunning.
- Stripes responded with a trio of runs in the second inning, landing the first three batters on base via a pair of walks and a single. A fielder’s choice followed by a throwing error plated the first two runs, before a bases-loaded walk made it 3-1.
- Team Stripes pushed its lead by another run in the third, as Jacob Reyes notched an RBI to score Greyson Wuis, who reached on a leadoff base knock.
- Chris Worrell Jr. added to Stripes’ lead in the home half of the fifth with a two-out RBI single to center, scoring Matti Di Maggio who reached on a double.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Worrell Jr. led all players in hits in today’s contest, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
- Stripes’ AJ Juarez tossed 2.0 innings of no-hit ball, punching out two in the process.
- Di Maggio tallied the lone extra-base hit on the day.
- Team Stripes needed only five hits to plate five runs.
