ROCKFORD, Ill. – Ashton Lansdell homered twice and the United States rolled past Mexico, 24-5, Thursday evening at the 2026 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women’s Baseball World Cup Group Stage Rockford at Rivets Stadium. With the win, Team USA moves to 2-0 on the week and remains unbeaten alongside Australia and Canada.

The United States got the offense rolling from the get-go, scoring 20 runs on 10 hits through the first two frames. Denae Benites and Lansdell powered the offense, with Benites lifting a three-run homer and Lansdell going deep twice, including a grand slam. The duo dealt a brunt of the damage, combining to go 5-for-6 with 13 RBIs and eight runs scored. Kate Blunt and Ashanthy Marcano contributed towards the offense in the later innings to help seal the win.

Three pitchers made appearances for the stars and stripes. Elise Berger earned the start and tossed 2.1 innings before Addy Wilson entered in relief. Wilson pitched the remainder of the third before Jordan Andreas made her debut on the bump and turned in 2.0 innings of one-hit ball to earn the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The United States loaded the bases with back-to-back walks and an error to open the bottom of the first. Alex Hugo drew a bases-loaded walk to put the U.S. on the board before Benites extended the lead with a bases-clearing double to center field.
• In her first start of the week, Lansdell made her name heard early. Eyeing a 1-0 offering in her first at-bat of the game, Lansdell crushed a pitch off the left field foul pole for a two-run homer to make it 6-0.
• Jamie Baum capped the seven-run first inning with a sacrifice fly to score Blunt, who reached on a walk.
• Mexico answered with two runs in the top of the second after a pair of base knocks put traffic on the base paths. A wild pitch scored the team’s first run of the contest before a defensive miscue made it 7-2.
• The U.S. responded immediately, kicking off the second inning with three consecutive hits, including a three-run home run off the bat of Benites.
• Marcano followed with an opposite field line drive for an RBI stand-up double. Just three pitches later, Kelsie Whitmore found the left-center gap and tacked on two more to hand the U.S. a 13-2 advantage.
• Team USA continued to pour it on as Benites, Hugo, and Remi Schaber each drove in a run. With the bases loaded, Lansdell kept a hot bat and crushed her second homer of the night, this one for a grand slam to push the advantage to 20-2.
• Mexico took advantage of a leadoff walk in the top of the third, as Daniela Leal doubled down the left field wall to drive in a run. Mexico added two more thanks to a pair of wild pitches and an RBI single from Camila Vargas.
• Lansdell responded in the home half of the third with an RBI double to right-center field. Blunt drove in Team USA’s second run of the inning while Marcano added her second hit of the game to extend the lead to 23-5.
• Blunt notched her second RBI of the day in the fourth with a two-out RBI single, driving in Amira Hondras who reached on a four-pitch walk.

• The Women’s National Team improves to 4-0 all-time against Mexico and has outscored it 54-8.
• Eight players accounted for Team USA’s 12 hits, including multi-hit performances from Benites, Lansdell, and Marcano.
• Lansdell went 3-for-3 with seven RBIs, joining Kylee Lahners (2019), Alex Hugo (2023), and Jamie Baum (2026) as the only Women’s National Team players to record seven RBIs in a game. Additionally, this marks the first time in program history Team USA has had back-to-back seven-RBI performances.
• Team USA tied its single-game program record with 14 walks, matching its total against Hong Kong in 2023.
• Through two games, the United States is slashing .472/.648/1.094. Team USA is also the only team to have hit a home run, with six players combining for eight homers.
• The Women’s National Team has scored at least 20 runs in a game 10 times since 2004. Tonight, Team USA’s 12 hits marks the fewest it has recorded in a game while scoring 20 or more runs in program history.
