Roundup: Day Two of Champs NC Pool Play Had it all From Shootouts to Shutouts

Day two is all wrapped up and the final 14 pool play matchups brought nonstop action

Day two of NC Champs brought more excitement and non-stop action. From high-scoring shootouts to multiple shutouts, there was no shortage of action in Cary. Read below to catch up on all the action.

Performance Baseball/Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team 2, SC Panthers 2027 Marucci 0,

In a fast-paced and low-scoring contest, Connor Balazic’s two-RBI single in the bottom of the third ended up being the decider for Performance Baseball. The trio of Thomas Dierschke, Dylan Langstaff, and Gavin Coffey worked a combined shutout, tallying seven strikeouts and only allowing four hits.

Canes Midwest National 16, Alpha Prime 2027 7

There was no shortage of offense, as both teams combined for 23 runs with Canes Midwest National recording 16 of the 23.. After going down 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Canes Midwest National exploded for an eight-run second inning, fueled by a 380 ft three-run bomb by Abrahm Howard. He finished the game with two hits, two runs, four RBIs, and a walk.

Wow Factor National 17U 2, CBA/Orioles Scout Team 2

A pitching-dominated contest saw only six hits and strikeouts between both squads. Wow Factor National 17U struck first in the opening frame following an RBI-double by Sebastian Wilson. Wow Factor National added to their lead in the fifth on a sac fly RBI from Lane Johnson to go up 2-0. CBA responded in the bottom of the fifth, following a hit-by-pitch RBI from Miguel Delgado and a sac fly RBI from Hudson Riordan, the game was squared at two apiece till the end.

East Cobb Astros 5, PRD 4

Both squads came out hot after their leadoff batter struck out. PRD had four consecutive batters reach base safely on three singles and an error to take an early 3-0 lead. The East Cobb Astros quickly matched it, putting up three of their own in the bottom of the first with their first four batters all reaching safely. East Cobb Astros took the lead 5-3 with two additional runs brought home on a passed ball and sac fly in the second, and PRD brought another run home on an RBI single by Casper Billington. The offense cooled off after three frames as East Cobb held on to their one-run edge.

SC Panthers 2027 Marucci 11, Canes Midwest National 3

Canes Midwest National took an early 1-0 lead from an RBI single by Cash Muzzy. After getting shut out in their first two games, SC Panthers 2027 Marucci found plenty of offense in the second inning. A two-RBI double gave them the lead, followed by a two-RBI triple from Kellen Rogers, who advanced home on a defensive miscue. Canes Midwest National later cut the lead down to 5-3, but a six-run fourth inning for SC Panthers 2027 Marucci sealed the deal.

Performance Baseball/Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team 6, Alpha Prime 2027 5

An exciting matchup featuring two homers ended in Performance Baseball/Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team’s favor, concluding their pool play with a 2-1 record. Alpha Prime struck first, tacking on a run in the first inning following an RBI single from Nate Slikker. Performance Baseball answered quickly, after going up 2-1 in the second, a bases-clearing triple by Grant Stafford gave them a 5-2 lead. Drew Cross’s solo shot gave them a 6-1 cushion. Alpha Prime’s comeback attempt fell short despite Gavin Williams’ three-run homer to cut Performance Baseball’s lead to one.

Wow Factor National 17U 9, PRD 2

Wow Factor National cruised to a victory backed by stellar pitching performances, led by starter Liam Radke, who pitched five putouts with no hits or runs allowed in two innings. Wow Factor National’s pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts and only two runs allowed. Big-time outings from Jake Turner (two hits, runs, and RBIs) and Cooper Goff (two hits and three RBIs) helped secure the win.

CBA/Orioles Scout Team 2, East Cobb Astros 1

Offense was at a premium in a pitcher-dominated matchup featuring 13 combined strikeouts. The East Cobb Astros broke the ice in the fourth inning after an RBI single from Malachi Butler. CBA tied it at one in the top of the final frame following an RBI single from Mac Morris. With the bases loaded, CBA capitalized on a wild pitch, bringing home the final run of the game.

Stacked - KC Royals Scout Team 3, Texas Twelve Red Sox 2027 1

A big day all-around from Jose Partida led Stacked to victory. On the mound, Partida went all seven innings, putting up seven strikeouts while on the offensive side, Partida notched two hits and scored a run. Stacked struck first in the third, scoring on an RBI-groundout from Aiden Sun. Texas Twelve answered that same inning, scoring their lone run on an Easton Brunson RBI-single. Stacked pulled away, tacking on a run in the fifth and seventh to secure the win.

2027 Franklin Scout Team 6, CBU 2027 Scout Team 3

Juan Diaz’s strong day including a walk, two hits, and three RBIs, lifted 2027 Franklin Scout Team over CBU 2027 Scout Team. Diaz got the scoring going in the second with his first RBI for a single. An inning later, Diaz singles again, bringing in two more, ultimately extending their lead to 5-0. CBU clawed back, making it a two-run difference in the sixth, but Franklin added another run in the sixth, and a three-up, three-down seventh wrapped it up.

Canes National 17U/Mets Scout Team 10, SBA Bolts National 2027 2

Canes National 17U dropped 10 unanswered runs to beat SBA Bolts National. Following a defensive miscue, SBA Bolts capitalized in the second frame, bringing two runners in and taking a 2-0 lead. Canes National immediately responded, putting two of their own in the second inning after a two-RBI double from Braylon Sheffield. Eight more runs across the next three innings were enough to end the game via run-rule.

FTB Phillies 2027 2, Dirtbags 17U National 0

FTB Phillies’ victory cemented the squad as the lone undefeated team through three games. An all-around defensive performance led to a shutout, highlighted by Gerardo Sandoval’s three strikeouts and no hits allowed, along with a SportsCenter-worthy diving play by Blake Ragsdale. The lone two runs came in the first frame off an RBI-single from Tyson Moore and an RBI-groundout courtesy of Aiden Kearney.

Chicago White Sox Scout Team/Indiana Bulls Black 2027 National 4, USA Prime National/Detroit Tigers Scout Team 0

Stellar defense from the Indiana Bulls Black 2027 National and an 87-pitch, six-inning outing by starting pitcher Charlie Herr (four strikeouts, three hits allowed with no runs) solidified the shutout. Mason Meyer had a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run to help secure the victory.

Team Elite 8, MLB Breakthrough Series 5

A trio of singles would lead to an early 4-0 advantage for MLB Breakthrough Series in the first frame. Team Elite worked their way back to make it a tie game in the fourth, then Cason Borchardt's two-run shot put them in front 6-4 in the top of the fifth. A one-run response from MLB Breakthrough kept it a one-score game before Team Elite pulled away with two more runs in the sixth to seal the deal.
