NHSI Day Four Consolation Recaps

Trinity 5, St. John Bosco 0

Konnor Stargel tossed a complete-game shoutout to carry Trinity (Louisville, Ky.) past St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.), 5-0, in consolation action on Saturday morning. Stargel was in command from the first pitch, scattering just six hits and striking out five in the win. Trinity scored three of its five runs via the longball, as Max Phillips launched a solo shot in the fifth and Cade Partin hit a two-run homer in the sixth to take a commanding lead. Trinity and St. John Bosco both finish the week 2-2.

Aquinas 4, Gloucester Catholic 0

Aquinas (San Bernardino, Calif.) ended its showing at the NHSI on a high note with a 4-0 victory over Gloucester Catholic (Gloucester City, N.J.) behind a complete-game effort from Eli Martinez. Martinez allowed six hits and punched out seven batters in the performance. The Falcons' offense backed up Martinez's outing on the mound by scoring two runs in the first and two in the sixth. The first two runs crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly and a fielder's choice, and the two runs in the sixth inning were scored courtesy of Max Lopez's 2-RBI single with runners at the corners.

Trinity Christian 9, Baylor School 7

Trinity Christian (Jacksonville, Fla.) used a stellar outing from Brennan Bachtell Jr. to get past Baylor School (Chattanooga, Tenn.), 9-7 in consolation action on Saturday morning. Going 5.1 innings of work, Bachtell Jr. recorded six strikeouts, giving up just two hits and two earned runs. Trinity Christian got off to a hot start, putting two runs on the board in the first, highlighted by an RBI single from Jordan Martinez. Aiden Arnett put another run on the board in the fourth with a two-out solo homerun to left field, giving Trinity Christian a 3-0 lead. Using four hits in the fifth frame, Trinity Christian put up a five-spot, highlighted by an RBI double from Parker Loew. Baylor jumped on the board in a big way, using a six-run top of the sixth, cutting the deficit to two. Securing one final insurance run, Martinez hit a sacrifice fly, bringing home Trinity's ninth run of the game. After a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, Gage Petrutz locked down the win and picked up the save in a 9-7 shootout.

Nolensville 10, Tampa Jesuit 0

Nolensville (Nolensville, Tenn.) secured its second win of the NHSI with a 10-0 run-rule victory over Tampa Jesuit (Tampa, Fla.). After Parker Vandercook helped the Knights get on the board in the first inning with an RBI single, Nolensville plated five runs in the second inning to take a 6-0 lead. In the third, Tyler Barth crossed home plate on an RBI groundout with the bases loaded, and then in the fifth an RBI double by Ryan Newell, followed by a bases-loaded walk and wild pitch, brought in the final three runs of the contest.

Delbarton 12, Edmond Memorial 1

Delbarton (Morristown, N.J.) claimed its second victory of the tournament thanks to an offensive downpour against Edmond Memorial (Edmond, Okla.). After the teams traded sac fly RBIs in the first, the Green Wave scored runs in each of the next four innings to run-rule the Bulldogs in five. Ted Masino pitched the entire game for Delbarton, striking out six and allowing only three hits and one run. Finnian O'Loughlin, who hit the go-ahead run for the Green Wave on Friday, was a difference maker once again. O'Loughlin smacked a two-RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, with a third run scoring on a throwing error, and then ended the game in the fifth when his second single of the day slipped under the glove of Edmond Memorial's centerfielder and three runs scored.

Harvard-Westlake 10, Casteel 8

Harvard-Westlake (Los Angeles, California) picked up its third win of the NHSI with a 10-8 victory over Casteel (Queen Creek, Ariz.). The Wolverines held a 3-1 lead into the fourth before Casteel took a 4-3 advantage in the fourth inning on an RBI ground out by Baylor Denny and a two-run triple by Jose Bingochea, making it a one-run game in the late innings. Harvard-Westlake responded in the sixth and rattled off six runs, capped by a three-run shot by Jake Kim into the trees in right field to make it a commanding 9-4 edge. Casteel rallied late and nearly pulled off the comeback in the seventh but came up two runs shy in a 10-8 final.

Regis Jesuit 3, Wakefield 1

Regis Jesuit (Aurora, Colo.) wrapped up its showing at the NHSI with a 3-1 win over Wakefield (Wakefield, N.C.) for its first win of the week. The Raiders struck first with a pair of runs in the first inning on an RBI triple by Eli Shappee and a balk, and then added another run in the third on Brady Wright's RBI single to left field. Wakefield used three consecutive singles by Sam Piscorik, Ryan Huisking, and Andrew Elms to get on the board in the fifth, and managed to get runners on base in the sixth and seventh innings, but was unable to overcome its deficit.
